    She will be loved

    Yale – 1996

A few months had gone by since Bette and Tina had become friends. They  saw each other almost every day, whether it was for lunch, breakfast, studying  sessions or pretty much everything else.

Their relationship was one of friendship and companionship. They were on the  path of becoming best friends, and yet there was always something in between  them, something unspoken that was starting to bother both of them.

Bette was unsure of what it was exactly, she still couldn’t quite grasp the idea of what it was. But she was certain that something was indeed there, but what could that be?

Could that be an interest that went beyond a friendship?

No. Sure they were sharing many hours of almost every day; after all they did live in the same building. And sure, they were becoming so close that they  could almost finish each other sentences, or know what the other one was thinking just by looking at one another… but, was that love?

No, not to Bette. Buying a different meal than the one Tina was having just so they steal from each other’s plate, that was hardly more than being a friend in the brunette’s head. And sure it wasn’t Bette’s first choice to eat big portions of pies for breakfast so that Tina could innocently help herself a couple of bites -meaning half of it- and therefore break the unnecessary diet she was in. That’s what friends are for, right?

What was it then? Or better yet, should she honour the pact she had made  with Tina, come forward and be honest about that “itch”?

Probably that was the best idea. The brunette could sense that something was  happening to Tina as well, but how could she express it in a way that would not  lead to misunderstandings?

“Like friends do Bette” Came the voice of the skinny brunette sitting across the  table.

“Look Shane… I know but… won’t things be weirder?” Bette was clearly stressed over the subject.

“Bette, you’re giving this too much thought… You two made this so-called pact of  always being honest right?”

“Jesus… you make it sound like we’re twelve”

“Well maybe you are, but… you did right?” Shane was trying not to divert the conversation.

    1. This is a great story. Love that Past Bette would not share her bagel with Shane but bought extra food so she COULD share with Tina. And Shane gets it. Bette is so in love. Lots to learn about what took place between 1996 and 2002. Present time Bette is absolutely miserable. And we know why. At least B and T are on the same coast and in the same room. Love Shane. She may be an ally I think. Depending on how close they are with Julia. Alice not so sure – so brazen – she needs to back off so they can talk.

    2. Absolutely love how this is unfolding. Always challenging moving back and forth between past and present, like two stories going at the same time.

Looks like as usually Bette is pinning and Tina sitting on the fence of indecisiveness. Can’t wait to see what she has to say.

If I am following correctly, Tina never gave in to Bette fully. Although the physical aspect of a relationship is not the only piece, it is important to be fully in a relationship of a romantic nature.

      • Agree. Tina seems to think Bette knew how she felt. Which is how? We shall see. Tina also seems totally career driven. The group was involved in their relationship even in college days. Drives me crazy. Lol.

    3. Drunk Bette in the bathroom plus returning love of her life Tina appearing out of nowhere at a bachorlette party. I mean, what could go wrong? LOL. LOVE IT. Bring the new chapter soon!

    4. Well, what will happen with this scenario..drunk Bette and Tina in the same room? Interesting story with past and present going on simultaneously. The plot thickens…please post again soon.
