A week had passed; things were very quiet in the Porter Kennard household. Mason was still in hospital but awake. Bette and Tina were still there majority of the time.
“Can we talk?” Bette asked
“Sure” Jess turned the TV off.
“Where is everyone?”
“Carmen is at the gym with Andrew, Lisa and Jace are sleeping”
“So we’ve not really spoken much since last week and that’s partly my fault” Bette said
“No Mama it is you fault, you’ve hardly spoke two words to me or to Carmen”
“It’s just…”
“Are you actually going to try and justify it?” Jess asked getting up “Because if that’s the case I don’t want to hear it”
“Jess your Mum wants…”
“So this is why you’re talking about it, because Mum is pissed at you?” Jess asked “You know what Mama I’ve had a week to think about things, Carmen’s parents died, and Carmen also nearly died, I’m sorry if that’s a petty problem for you”
“Jess I didn’t say that” Bette shook her head
“I think you’ll find you did” Jess snapped
“Jess it’s been one thing after another for the past 2 and half years, you and Kirsty, you and Carmen, and then Carmen’s accident, I’m just saying Mason should have got a little more of our attention”
Jess shook her head and walked through the house and into her room slamming the door.
Bette got up and followed Jess’s direction
“Jess please don’t walk away from me”
Jess put her headphones in and lay on her sofa.
Bette shook her head and left the room.
Carmen walked into the house and Bette was heading back out the door.
“Hi I’m just heading back to the hospital, Jess is in her side of the house in a huff” Bette said lifting her car keys and leaving.
“Okay then” Carmen said closing the door
Carmen hung up her keys and headed towards Jess’s side of the house.
“Baby?”
Jess looked up from the sofa, “Hey your back early”
“Yeah my legs got sore, what’s wrong your Mama said you’re in a huff”
“I’m not in a huff ignore her” Jess sighed sitting up and taking her IPod out. “Can I get you anything?”
“No I’m good babe, I’m just going to shower then we can go see Mason if you want?”
“No I’m okay, Mum phoned to update me, can we go to the cinema or something?”
“Yeah I don’t see why not, we can do whatever you want”
Carmen kissed Jess softly “I love you”
“Love you too beautiful girl” Jess smiled pulling Carmen into a hug
