All I Want Is Everything – Tim

He sits alone in the living room, ignoring the world outside and settling on sports news on the television. Sipping a beer, Tim Haspel is unwinding after another day at work. He hears a knock on the door. Maybe the knock is for the guy he rents his former garage out to. Rising up from the couch, he walks to the door and looks through the peephole. He sees a familiar, grinning face before opening the door.

    Jenny: Hi.

Tim backs away from the door to let Jenny in.

    Tim: Everything okay?

Jenny: Yes, I’m fine. Thank you for asking. I’m actually here to check on you.

    Tim nods, almost to himself.

    Tim: Mm-hm. I’m here, Jen.

Jenny enters the house. It is a house she still has fresh memories of, having lived there previously with Tim. Tim closes the door as Jenny looks around.

    Tim: And Marina?

Jenny: Marina’s doing fine as well.

    Jenny turns toward Tim.

Jenny: Have you been doing anything aside from work and watch SportsCenter?

Tim: What else is there to do?

Jenny closes her eyes, tilting her head upwards.

Jenny: Tim, please stop doing this to yourself.

Tim: What am I doing, Jenny?

    Jenny: Okay…

Jenny walks over to the couch and sits down, turning the television off with the nearby remote. She pats another part of the couch with her left hand while looking up at Tim.

    Jenny: Come. Sit.

Tim: What am I, your dog now?

    Jenny: Pretty please?

Tim sighs, seeing the turned-off television and its blankness. Acquiescing, he makes his way to the couch, seated on the opposite end from Jenny.

    Tim: Happy now?

Jenny: I’ll be happier when you start living your life again.

Tim: My life? …My life. The life that used to make sense until it no longer did. That life?

    Jenny: Tim…

Tim: Look, Jen I’m not mad at you. I’m not happy, either, but… I understand. It’s just hard for me to understand it for myself.

    Jenny nods.

Tim: I had a set path in life.

Jenny: You still do. You’re still head coach at C.U. You’ve got your best friend as your assistant. You have little to worry about as far as rent goes, especially with that guy out there in the studio.
