A Different L: Episode 4 Part 6
As date night is underway for Kara and Daisy, Victoria Hand of SHIELD has her own plans tonight. The meeting place is a penthouse suite in Santa Barbara. Taking the elevator, she waits for her own arrival to the top floor of hotel. Finally reaching the top level, the door opens and standing there facing her is a man with a clean shaven head and no smile. His look always seems to be that of intensity, Victoria thinks to herself. Victoria grins, stepping off the elevator and into the penthouse.
Victoria: Hello, Dembe.
Dembe gives a polite nod.
Dembe: Miss Hand.
She can hear the voice of the man she is there to meet as he emerges from the balcony.
Red: Ah, there she is!
His smile is calm and confident.
Victoria: And to what do I the pleasure of this meeting?
Raymond: I remember my first time here, I had this scintillating beverage. It was a keen mixture of vodka and mango juice. I remember getting to keep the bottle although it’s quite possible I was just in a particularly joyful mood that evening. Earlier that day I had met a younger and very ambitious Tony Stark. I had just lost a bet to him over a racing event, a lesson I have since when it comes to whether I should partake in such chances. His winning bet was to get a recording of my voice. He is enamored with it. Of course had I known that would be the voice some robotic monster would peg to make its own while turning Sokovia into the great meteor that never was, perhaps I would not have even bothered placing that bet in the first place.
Red laughs to himself as he takes a seat on one end of the sofa while Victoria occupies the other. Dembe is stationary, only moving his head between the sofa and the elevator. Victoria can sense when Raymond Reddington’s focus was shifting from whimsical past to pressing present.
Raymond: The name disappeared.
Victoria: I noticed.
Raymond grins for a brief moment.
Raymond: It appears the Chart managed to grab his attention and I can assure you, this will all play out the way it’s supposed to.
Victoria: Yes, but you’ve never answered my question when you brought this to my attention in the first place. What’s the endgame for you?
