Once upon a time, in the magical town of Hollywood, in a land called California, four young women set their intentions on becoming the next Nora Ephron, a famous and successful playwright and screenwriter.
These four came together out of need because rent, even in the slummiest part of Los Angeles, was exorbitant, and none of the young women had the ability to live alone. Together they rented a two bedroom apartment in the heart of Hollywood and shared their dreams and hopes.
But the truth was, two of the women, Dawn and Gabby, were quite shallow and vile, interested more in drinking and carousing than in their art. They were also selfish and often borrowed money from their roommates for beer and smokes, never paying back one cent of it. Still worse, they were belittling to the other two, who had, in actuality, genuine talent. Perhaps that is why Dawn and Gabby were cruel to Jenny and Tina, both nice girls from the land of Indiana.
However, a little success and fame can warp the kindest of young hearts and after Jenny had her first short story published in Harpers, she took on some of the same disingenuous behavior as her two cruel roommates.
Only Tina maintained her integrity and compassion. Only Tina held to her dreams in hopes that someday her rainbow would come shining through.

“Who ate my yogurt? Damn it, Dawn, that was mine!” Gabby swore as she rummaged through the refrigerator.
“Chill, Gab, shit, I’ll by you some more,” Dawn said.
Jenny pointed inside the refrigerator. “Look you two, I labeled the shelves. We each have a shelf. Keep your food on your shelf and no one else eats it.”
Gabby turned around and sneered. “It was on my shelf. Bitch stole it.”
“I said I’ll buy some more. Relax,” Dawn returned. She found the grocery list in the center of the table and wrote Gab’s yogurt and added her own items, beer and smokes. “It’s Tina’s turn to shop, right? I better put down the brand of my cigs. Girl’s dumber than a box of rocks. Bought me Eves last time. Do I look like the type of woman who smokes Eve cigarettes? Sheesh.”
Just then Tina came into the kitchen, hurried to the coffee pot only to find less than half a cup left. “Come on you guys. Couldn’t you fix another pot when you drink it all? You know I have to run out the door to catch the bus and don’t have time to brew more.”

Honest, I didn’t think it would be this late in the fall before I posted again. My apologies. Two additional classes were added to my teaching schedule along with more grading. I’ve been working each day on writing, but usually only 10 or 15 minutes here or there.
This is a short tale…nothing like Eternal Rocks! It is meant to be playful and fun, not sad and depressing and heartbreaking. I have the second chapter done, but will wait a few days to allow readers to process this one. I still need to write part three and four, so it might be a few days longer between posts for those.

Welcome back and it looks like a funny read! I like the bag lady talking to Tina! Please let Bette help Tina! I dislike her roommates. They are doing Tina so wrong! I hope when she makes it that she leaves their asses behind. I never liked Jenny on the show! She’s one selfish bitch! Let Tina help those that has helped her and had her best interest at heart. referring to Bette who was heading to Ferrari since we all know
how beautiful is Diana, and only a guess.

BenMac, A Fairy tale! What a wonderful story style to keep us guessing where you’ll add your own twists to the well-known storyline and take our favorite characters in this fantasy world. So many possibilities with the hags, and ego-maniacs and the mean “step sister” characters all in the land of screen magic and Hollywood. I’m very interested in seeing how you will work all them in and add the other archetypal characters into this story.
