    le petite Nicolas

Part 6 – le petite Nicolas

There were days when Kit Porter-Benson would sit in her office at the Planet café and nightclub in West Hollywood, CA and literally pinch herself to make sure she wasn’t dreaming. Her life was picture perfect for the most part. She was fifty-five years old, sober, happily married to Roger “Sonny” Benson, had a great family and was a successful business owner. Kit was very proud of how far she’d come in seven years. When she arrived in Los Angeles from Chicago she’d hit rock bottom; years of drugs and alcohol abuse had taken their toll and was controlling her life. Her career as a singer was in the toilet. She couldn’t get any steady gigs because she couldn’t be trusted to show up at her engagements and if she showed up she was usually too drunk or too stoned to perform.

When she moved to Los Angeles seven years earlier it was to be near her half-sister Bette Porter, and to make some significant lifesaving changes to her lifestyle choices. She joined Alcoholics Anonymous where she met Ivan Aycock who became her sponsor. Ivan was a woman who identified as a man and looked the part. A real friendship developed between them and soon they were fighting an attraction. Ivan came close to being Kit’s first “same-sex” lover even though Kit only ever thought of him as a man. They eventually had a falling out but Ivan still agreed to become business partners in the purchase of the Planet.

Kit worked hard to restore her estranged relationship with Bette, and adopted Tina and the rest of the gang as her family too. When Angie was born Kit became the consummate auntie but Bette and Tina soon found out that she had an ulterior motive for always hanging around their home and volunteering to sit with Angie. Seems she had the ‘hots’ for Angie’s nanny affectionately referred to as her manny because of his gender. Angus Partridge was a struggling musician 15 years her junior. He took the job taking care of Angie to make ends meet. Though Kit was significantly older the attraction was mutual and they quickly became lovers.

At the time Kit was menopausal and the last thing she expected was to get pregnant but she did at age 50. Angus wanted to get married and have the child but Kit gave him a dose of reality saying she was just too old and set in her ways to start a family this late in life. Her own son was just three years younger than Angus. Though heartbreaking they made the mutual choice to abort the baby. Afterwards they tried to make a go of their May/December romance but eventually Kit’s success and Angus’ lack of getting his ‘big break’ drove him into a depression. He assuaged his failures by having an affair with a younger woman. The pain and hurt that he caused Kit drove her to drink again and she fell off the wagon for a short time. Ironically it was Angus that helped her back to recovery but by then the relationship had self-destructed and they eventually went their separate ways.

    1. I’m still reading this story, because you are a amazing writer and i like this story very much.

Love the bonding between Angie and Nicolas.

But still hoping that B& T will regain their trust in each other and hope we can convince you to give us our happy ending.

    2. Im with the other readers on this one if your not going with tibette then im not sure I like the Barbara story line if its to be a stepping stone to tibette finding there way back then yes carry on but im not feeling it.

    3. Hey Bat, sorry I didn’t comment earlier. But when reading your author’s note and the comments I couldn’t stay away from commenting any longer. So let me say, that I really love your storyline and I also love the prospect of Bette and Barbara getting more than ‘friends with benefits’ but I understand that it’s your decision in which way to take the storyline. Always thought that Bette and Barbara would have made a great couple but as it seems there are not really many Bette and Barbara shippers around. Anyway just wanted to let you know that as with your other stories I am loving your writing and your storyline. Please keep up your incredible writing and looking forward to the next chapter.

    4. Coming out of the shadows to put my 2 cents on it!!
I’ll read anything you write no matter the direction you’ll choose.I’d like to know if you’re going to finish your other story:”What More Could I Want”,that you stop at chapter 65?
      Any updates in the horizon?

    5. Im feeling the a bit of the same sentiments as tibettenation. Probably because I’ve always been such a diehard tibetter, but I completely respect your prerogative on where you want this story to go and the writing is superb. I think most of my hesitancy has to do with something you wrote about Tina feeling as if she were the one that lost out whereas Bette has come out smelling like roses. I tend to sympathize with Tina here. They both made mistakes and we could play the blame game all day, but I don’t think one should be absolved over the other. Not sure If you or any other readers watch Orange Is the new black, but the best way I can explain it is by using a reference to a quote by Piper Chapman…basically they both did the crime, but in the end only one of them is paying for it. However, this story is Bette-centric and as you stated in your AN, they each have lives independent of the other. Perhaps if the story were geared more towards Tina we would see that she has positive things going on in her life, as well. But as it’s not, I am just assuming the bit about Tina feeling shorted in some way must be accurate and that’s unfortunate. Anyhow, I can’t wait to see where this goes and I’m coming along for the ride.

    6. it seem, doesn’t showed my comment on my first round, so I’ll explain it again.
I’m like the others. Bette and Tina would really like you to find their way to each other. difficult for me to imagine this story without a happy ending.
but I respect your idea, and I still like to read this story. I love it!
I love Angie, and the bonding between her and Nicolas, so sweet!
