CHAPTER 90

“How do you think she’s going to take the conversation ?” Tina asked as they washed up together after Thanksgiving dinner. Angie was watching TV – allowing Bette and Tina to have a final conversation about how they were going to tell their daughter that she had grandparents.

“I don’t think we are going to know until we dive in there and tell her that she has a grandfather and a grandmother and that they are in our lives again”

Tina dried a plate and put it down on top of the other plate of the same size. She sighed

“I don’t want to lie to her and she must be curious about the number of times that I have been missing from the school gates when it comes to picking her up”

“She’s never said anything – she takes what we tell her as gospel – that’s they age she is at – she believes what you and I tell her because she doesn’t know that there have been times when we have garnished the truth a little “

Tina threw the tea towel on the kitchen unit and picked up her coffee and took a sip

“It feels right that we tell her – it would be nice if they could be at the wedding “

Bette smiled – she had been very careful not to put any sort of time frame on Tina’s conversations with her parents. They had a lot to talk about and  it was something that Tina needed to do on her own sometimes and other times the four of them had got together and talked. Tina had been the one who had decided that it was time for Angie to be told about her grandparents. Bette agreed and had thought so for a couple of weeks but Tina needed to be the one who made the call. Bette also loved the idea of having Tina’s parents at their wedding – it would make it special for Tina and that meant everything to Bette.

“I haven’t asked them “

“Have they not asked about the wedding ?”

“Mom often asks me what my plans are for the wedding “

“The plans are we turn up at the court and we get married – and afterwards we are going to the Ritz Carlton for an expensive meal which I intend to pay for but I am sure that Peggy wants to “
