    Part 3 – I couldn’t face life without you

    Part 3 – I couldn’t face life without you

Later that night Tina went to the house to pack her things. An hour later she was getting ready to leave the bedroom when she glanced at the unmade bed. It was so unlike Bette not to have everything in order but the bed wasn’t the only thing that appeared unkempt. There were clothes strewn over a chair, shoes on the floor, papers stacked on the nightstand, and her laptop computer sat atop the rumpled sheets. Tina touched Bette’s pillow then picked it up and noticed the tear stains on the pillow case. There were several used tissues tucked underneath it which was pretty gross but it didn’t bother Tina. She sat on the bed and pulled the pillow to her face inhaling Bette’s scent and leaving traces of her own tears. She’s tempted to just curl up in the bed with the pillow to await Bette’s return as she’d done so many nights before in their seven year marriage. She subconsciously rubbed her stomach trying hard not to think about the baby girl growing inside her.

Her heart broke for both of them. She’d have to tell Bette about the baby eventually, but what part if any would she have in her life? Could she ever forgive Bette? That was yet to be determined. Tina got up and moved the computer off the bed so she could straighten the sheets. She needed to occupy her hands to keep her mind from wandering to places she wasn’t emotionally ready to visit yet.

As she made the bed, threw away the tissues and changed the soiled pillow cases Bette’s computer dinged to alert that she had a new message. Tina noticed that the computer was running Bette’s email program and that she had several messages. Some were from their friends with whom Bette had started mending relationships with, especially Shane but Dana was coming around too. Alice was the only one that still hadn’t bridged the gap; though she was torn between loyalties.

Tina knew she has no business reading Bette’s emails, but her curiosity got the best of her when she saw that the most recent message was from Candace Jewel. The woman Bette had sworn she would have nothing more to do with; so why was she emailing her?
