    Part 7 – Family Picture As Bette’s pregnancy progressed into her third trimester thankfully without any complications Dr. Perez increased her checkups to every two weeks. In her ninth month it would switch to weekly until she delivered. The visits were a mix of regular physical exams, late-pregnancy tests, and discussions about the coming birth.

    As Bette’s pregnancy progressed into her third trimester thankfully without any complications Dr. Perez increased her checkups to every two weeks. In her ninth month it would switch to weekly until she delivered. The visits were a mix of regular physical exams, late-pregnancy tests, and discussions about the coming birth. Part of Dr. Perez’s appeal and success as an OBGYN was her whole person wellness approach to care. She took care of the physical body primarily but she nurtured a healthy attitude, spirit and emotional well-being during the entire pregnancy.

    She’d successfully brought hundreds of baby’s into the world throughout her career. Not all births were optimal but even the difficult ones that ended in premature birth, physical or emotional disabilities or even still births or miscarriages left the expectant parents knowing that she did everything in her power and there was no blame. Regardless of anyone’s individual belief systems they were better able to cope with the tragedies and more often than not celebrate a new life because of Dr. Perez’s assurances, compassion and genuine thoughtfulness towards her patients.

    “So how are you feeling? Any contractions, swelling, headaches or any other concerns?” Asked Dr. Perez as she prepared Bette for her physical exam.

    “I think I’ve experienced the Braxton Hicks contractions that we talked about.”

    “Are they coming more often or with any frequency? Are they painful?”

    “No not with any frequency and they are essentially painless; just a bit of discomfort.”

    “That’s normal for this stage of your pregnancy but carefully monitor them. If you experience any changes or if you have more than four contractions in an hour it might be nothing but don’t chance it; call my service immediately.”

    “How will I know what changes to expect and what isn’t normal?”

    “Changes within a couple weeks of your due date is normal. Your cervix gradually softens up in preparation for labor. You can expect your contractions to get more intense and more frequent unlike the ones you may be having now that are painless and sporadic Braxton Hicks contractions. These don’t cause any obvious cervical changes but they help your cervix to thin out and dilate a bit; we refer to this period as pre-labor.”

    “How can I tell the difference between Braxton Hicks and true labor contractions?”

      I’m curious about the interaction between Bette and Leigh.If they will get romantically involved or not.
      I agree with everybody else about Angie and how she’s bonding with Nicholas.She’s smart,sensitive and very very cute.
      Glad to know about “What More I Could Want”.Hope to see an update very soon.Maybe when you finish this short story?
      If I remember correctly,Bette and her brother’ sorrogate were very close to have their babies.Am I right?

      • No worries guiga. I’m honored you even remembered the title and I’m impressed that you recall exactly where I left off. That story turned into a saga and at chapter 65 I wasn’t anywhere near the end. Bette is pregnant with twins; her brother and his partner are also having a baby using a surrogate. Tina has been reunited with her brother and will soon meet her sister and father. Bette’s mom is smitten with an old friend from her past so wedding bells are ringing for them. Just like this story Angie is a precious preschooler and adored by everyone. Tina has a new career and the family is living a great life in New York. Now that you got me thinking about it, I do need to get back to finishing it. I’ve been sidetracked with this story and a couple others. However you’ve inspired me. It’s not posted here so I’ll wait until I finish it to repost as a book. Thanks for the inspiration and thanks for reading and commenting on this story.

      Yes and what a saga: Bette and the issues w/ the sperm donor.Tina working as a Social Worker.Maxine regained her memory of the accident in Canada,and is reunited with Allyn Barnes(her benefactor).The investigation of the attempt murder and the guy that rape Maxine,who escaped to Austalia.Maxine during her amnesia was named Elizabeth.Bette found the letters from her mother in the attic/art studio.How B&T got together.Maxine and the hipnosis.And the story goes on and on and on.I really missed that!!

    14. Hey Bat! Loving this story however you wish to write as as I love your style and voice when you write. I’ve loved the way you’ve developed this storyline with lots of possibilities, and each character’s evolution. Some couples can come back from affairs and others can’t. I’m sure that Tina is moving on with others and trying on other coats until she finds another that fits. We all are responsible for how we wish to live our lives.
      Angie is quite delightful in her ways of being in the world. I think she will love being a big sister and her and Nicholas will have a delightful life together full of many adventures.
      I love that Shane is so involved with Bette and her life. I’m enjoying her character in this story as well. As for Alice, she does need to learn about boundaries. Great story and I’m at the edge of my seat waiting for more!
