The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 48

“You’re sure you want to do this alone?” asked Tina.

Bette nodded and kissed Tina’s soft, pink lips. “Yes, Baby. I am. But you’ll go inside with me, right?”

“Yes. I’ll be in the waiting area. Just grab me if you need me.”

Bette smiled, feeling much more relaxed than she had been the last time she’d been in the parking lot of Villa de Mujeres. The duo climbed out of the blue coupe and held hands as they walked inside the building. Tina opted to wait out of sight in a set of chairs near the entrance. Bette gave her name and information and was escorted to a comfortable waiting room. There were cozy couches, tables and chairs, vending machines, toys, and a picturesque view of the Pacific Ocean. She stood at the window, studying the water against the backdrop of an overcast sky when she heard her wife’s voice.

“Hey Pretty Lady,” Sidney said softly. She bore a shy smile and wore a comfortable looking pair of yoga pants and long-sleeved t-shirt.

Bette turned around, sticking her hands in the back pockets of her jeans. “Hey.”

They sat down at a table, across from one another. They were the only two people in the room.

“I’m surprised to see you,” said Sidney.

Bette shrugged. “No one is more surprised than me. I wanted to talk to you.”

    Sidney looked concerned. “Oh.”

“Nothing is wrong. I just wanted to see you. I think I need a little more closure. And I needed to see with my own eyes that you were okay.”

    Sidney nodded. “I’m okay.”

Bette studied her wife’s fuller cheeks and brighter eyes. Her creamy skin was glowing, and her smile was genuine and warm. “You look better, Sid. I’m really proud of you.”

Sidney blushed. “I don’t deserve your praise, Bette.”

“I have my own struggles with substance abuse. I have a sponsor. I’m in therapy myself. It’s helped a lot. Thank you for saying something to your counselor at the hospital. They found someone for me. She’s been great,” said Bette.

“Bette, that’s the very least I could do.”

    1. So Shane really did provide the stuff.? Well, there goes my hope that even she didn’t know and that the dealer was some other person of her salon.

This meeting with Sidney will hopefully do wonders for Bette’s self-confidence. She is strong enough to let Sid go and really see their marriage as being over and done with. Time to concentrate on getting stronger and keep her addictions in check.
