    The Return – (Chapter: Ten)

“Sam, I’ll be in the lounge if anyone needs me.”

    “Okay, Dr. Weaver.”

Kerry walked in ready for just a few moments of peace and quiet only to find Abby sitting on the couch, head back and eyes closed.

    “You alright?”

Abby didn’t even open her eyes to respond.

“You know that saying about not learning from history and having to repeat it?”

Kerry simply nodded sitting down in a chair, but Abby continued talking.

“Some days I feel like that’s the story of my life.”

    “You and Luka?”

To this Abby opened her eyes. “Is it obvious?”

Kerry sighed and moved to sit next to Abby on the couch. “I have been having these overwhelming feelings of déjà vu lately.”

Abby turned to face Kerry, putting one arm on the back of the couch and pulling a leg up under her. The redhead simply stared off into the middle of the room.

“You and Luka have been looking at each other a certain way, nothing overly flirty or anything. It’s just the way you two used to look at each other. Be careful Abby.”

Kerry still seemed to be staring at nothingness. Abby took a chance and reached out to put a hand on her arm.

    “You and Dr. Legaspi?”

Her question met silence. She pushed her hand through her hair.

    “Damn.”

“What?” Kerry asked finally looking at her.

“That thing I said early about history repeating and not learning from it? Just forget I said it.”

They both laughed, but then Kerry grew serious again. This trying to be friends thing was incredibly stressful for her. She wasn’t really sure how it was working with Kim, and it still seemed awkward with Abby. She wasn’t even close to being comfortable enough to tell her that she had dreamt of having ***** with the psychiatrist, but she was so rattled by the experience that she needed to do something.

    “Abby?”

    “Hmm?”

“Why are you giving things with you and Luka another try?”

The resident blew out a quick breath thinking of how to explain it.

“We’re different. We’re in different places than we were back then.” She chose her next words very carefully. “I obviously don’t know Kim well enough to make any judgment about her, but you’re certainly a different person than you were then. You can’t go through what you have and not changed.”

    1. Always happy to find more of this has been posted. Seems very geekily in character for Kerry, asking if it can be a date — even if Kim had to drag it out of her. Plus the Kim/Kate topper…well done.
