Chapter 25 – December in Santa Monica (Final Chapter)

The following week was very much a normal week.  Work, school, family meals and planning of the holidays. Margaret was arriving home every afternoon at 3:30 where upon she and Mary would plan their Christmas shopping list, the prepare dinner, eat an early meal and then would go to the mall for a couple of hours to shop.

Bette and Tina would clean the kitchen and spend time with Daniel, make their calls to Angie and friends and plan their holiday schedule. Each morning, Bette and Tina prepared the breakfast for themselves and Mary and then went to work.

On Tuesday night, the family meeting was held about the Christmas decorations. Bette suggested that since this was their first year, that they get help in buying and decorating the house. That would free up the family to do their own shopping and attend the social engagements which they would all have. Bette called Jim and Dot and asked if they or their staff could assist with the Christmas decorations. Once Jim and Dot returned from New Haven, they quickly got on the project and by December 10th, the house was fully decorated with a huge tree in the family room, a wreath on the front door, additional lights in the front and back yards, garland on the stair cases and various knick knacks through out house. Everyone was thrilled with the holiday look of the house. There was a special light feature in every bedroom.  A table top tree, or a snow village or a snow man or something which brought a smile.  In the cabana, Jim had insisted on a tree with a train set be set in the sitting room. All the lights for the house were placed on timers so they would come on in the mornings when the family woke up and turn off about 9:00 in the morning and then turn back on at 5 pm and off again at midnight. Bette was thrilled with this.

Tina loved what The Design Company had chosen. All the decoration were traditional in style with rich colors of burgundy, gold, blue, and silver. It gave the house an old fashion Christmas feel to it which for Tina said family, tradition and love.

      • Thank you for reading. I do have a couple of “one-shots” that I hope to publish later this month. I need to give this story a break. But I will get back to it at some point in the future.

Thank you for your support and encouragement.

      • Thank you for reading. If you have any suggestions for future stories you would like to see, I am open for suggestions. No promises that I will produce what you want to see, but I am willing to consider them.

Thank you for reading. Hopefully, I will continue to put some stories out…

          • Well, that is nice to know. If you do not know, there is no way that a writer knows if people are reading or not. You know how many are giving you ratings and you can read those who comment. But the silent readers are simply unknown. In the past, there was a view meter which gave the author some indication as to the traffic coming through. But that no longer exist. So when an author post chapters and get only a few comments or no comments or a couple of ratings, then you wonder if there is anyone out there outside of a handful of people.

Thank you for reading and for commenting.

    1. Thank you Martha for the effort and devotion to your stories. I have been a silent reader for the long haul. Today I wanted you to know how much I have appreciated your time. I hope that all readers give you props for this amazing story. Please continue to post when you can. Due to health reasons I have been more confined at home so your story has been a welcome visit. Keep up the good work. Thank you, Jackie, for maintaining this site. Bravo!!!

    2. majicspider60 – I get the impression that many of us on this website have been experiencing health problems and some of the things that which happens as one grows older. I hope that your health improves and you are able to resume the life you wish to live. Thank you for reading my story… saga really. I hope that you find something positive from the lives of Bette and Tina. These two fictional ladies have made a monumental contribution to my life… and there is nothing like a good story to escape the realities of life.

Thank you for reading and commenting. Take care of yourself and let us hear from you from time to time…

    3. The end??? Oh no, please!!!

Your story telling is so right on and complex. Not just the individual character’s complexity but the entire ensemble of characters and story lines!!!

I look forward to the next “Ten Years” snap shot who/what/where – Angie will be a practicing lawyer in NYC, LA or wherever. Susanne will be finishing up her Residency ?where? Daniel will have finished his undergraduate degree in?? Tina and Bette are retired and truly enjoying their time. Margaret and Mary are in their scariest medical time as aging. And, the other LA Lesbians are . . .

Even if this never happens we still have the work you have done!!

      Thanks for a good story!!

      • I will get back to this at some point… I have a couple of other ideas to do some one shots on that I will publish in the near future…. Thanks for reading and for your lovely compliments. Stay tuned… perhaps I will publish more… we will see. These three volumes was 74 chapters and somewhere around 2,250 pages. That is somewhere in the Harry Potter range for four of its volumes. It took me some 2 years to write and some 8 months to publish at 2 to 3 chapters per week. The good thing about this story is that in truth, it never will finish. I can pick it up and continue on when the mood strikes. I just cannot promise when that will be. Thank you for all your support.

    4. I have loved every word of this journey. I enjoy your writing; stories of Bette and Tina do not always have to be full of angst and vindictiveness. Although they have more money than most, your version has them being and doing everyday family things. They go through the same things that we all do. Hopefully after you have had a long enough break you will pick up where this lovely family left off. Thank you for sharing your talent with us. I look forward to anything you decide to post in the future.

    5. OneStorm1 –

Thankyou so much. I think that is one of the things that worried me. So many people are looking for conflict angst between Bette and Tina and I have always thought they had their share of conflicts, missteps and wrong moves in The L Word. I was ready for them to settle down and make a life of joy and love. I was ready for them to be parents, and family members and do the normal stuff most of us have to do. I also want Bette and Tina to resolve the mysteries of their lives and reconcile themselves to what is. With three volumes, I gave Bette back her mom and another sister. I have them look into the life of Melvin and find something of the man he really was. I have a few ideas for future volumes but I need to know what that story is going to be before I start to write. And I feel better to write the entire thing before I publish the first chapter. That gives me the confidence that the story follows a path which gets me to where I want to go. I guess I am unique in that way. Bette and Tina are lovely women and are so much more together than they ever could be individually. That is the sign of a truly strong relationship and I have always believed they had the means to be a really strong couple and have a lovely life.

      Thanks for your continued support…

    6. Martha,

I am so very proud of you. What an achievement. I am so sorry I have been unable to give the story the attention it deserves. With the blurred vision that is developing it is difficult to read much of any length. But I read this chapter and I promise I intend to read every word when I can. I really like that you stayed true to your plan. Yes there is more than enough drama in the day to day of simply living one’s life. You present a very realistic and lovely version of Bette and Tina and their family. What I also like is that you can continue this story forever if you so choose. The occasional check in so to speak or several chapters or whatever you want and that to me is great!

      Billy

    7. Hello… thank you very much for this beautiful story. It’s a relief from the insanity of what they did, at times even disrespectful to the construction of the original series. your description of the day-to-day life of a family is the desire of all fans. Follow your intuition, I’ll certainly be here to appreciate it. Thank you.

    8. Hannab, Thank you so much for your comment and for reading this story… I am hopeful that I will continue this story at some point in the future. This Bette and Tina have a whole lot of life ahead of them. Daniel will be eleven years old soon and is a few years away from college and adulthood. And as Margaret says “there are people to see, places to go and things to do”. And I would like the opportunity for all those who read to be along for the journey.

      Thank you…

    9. Martha
I have enjoyed reading your stories so much. I love that we didn’t have high drama but living their best life after finding themselves in a very stable relationship. The addition of all the characters was fun and fascinating in how you wove them into the story. You are an amazing writer and if possible I look forward to more of their life’s’ adventures. It was truly an amazing experience to read. Thank you for your amazing storytelling talents! I can’t wait for more of your stories.

    10. bumsue, Thankyou for reading…. I have published more than 75 chapters on Bette Porter and Tina Kennard. I have concentrated on trying to show that they could live a life of that was full and enjoyable it they just communicated and worked on their relationships with each other and their families. Perhaps I am naïve but sometimes I just need a story which people can be themselves, enjoy a life where people are not out the make the main characters unhappy or harm them. A story where everything is not a competition as who can be the best or be the most at whatever endeavor. Sometime you just need a story where Bette and Tina know each other so well and respect and love each other so much, that they don’t question the other’s commitment to the relationship and they know the other better than they know themselves, but always they stand ready to really listen and to really hear what the other is saying.

I am glad you enjoyed my story… perhaps I will write more on these two. But I am not going to make a commitment to that at the moment. Thankyou for reading and being supportive of me. You do not know how much I really appreciate it.
