    Completely Incomplete – (Chapter: 46)

“Here we go… room 343,” Ashley said, as she opened up the door to our hotel room. After finishing up the awkward family brunch, we’d gotten on the road, stopped for a brief tour of my old town (unfortunately, the people who lived in my old house were not there), and drove until we decided we should call it a night. We were probably halfway there, in some random Pennsylvanian town about an hour from Pittsburgh. The hotel wasn’t complete crap (Ashley would never allow it) but at this point, I was too tired to even care.

“Can we just… sleep?” I asked.

“That sounds like the best idea I’ve heard all day,” she yawned.

We changed quickly and I took one of the low-dose painkillers the hospital had left me with before I climbed into bed next to Ashley. Once I was comfortable, she pulled the blankets over us and smiled at me.

    “Hey.”

    “Hey,” I replied.

“I had fun today. Even if it was just driving.”

“Me too,” I smiled. She leaned in, planting a long, tender kiss on my lips. When we pulled apart, I leaned my forehead against hers and grinned at her. I couldn’t believe how far we’d come in such a short time. At this time 2 months ago, we weren’t even speaking to each other. Maybe my moving to L.A. is our second chance, but it’s still entirely due to Ashley. If she hadn’t called, we probably would have never spoken. And if she hadn’t come to New York that first time, we might have never even seen each other. She had taken two huge steps, steps that I wouldn’t, in a million years, have had the guts to take. I figured I could take a small one, just to move closer to evening out the score. “Ash?”

    “Yeah?”

“Do you want to maybe go out for dinner one night before you leave? I mean, um… like… on a date?” A huge smile lit up her face. I guess I didn’t have much to be nervous about. “Can I take that as a yes?”

She nodded vigorously, still smiling. “I would love to.” Now it was my turn to grin, and I snuggled up even closer to her. My head rested by her shoulder, while my arms were firmly wrapped around her. “Goodnight, Spence.”
