    CHAPTER 1

    SHANE (standing): Dance with me.

DANA (looking around): Are you talking to me?

SHANE (smirks): Yes, I’m talking to you. You’re the only woman at the table. Who ya THINK I’m talkin’ to? (muttering) Sheesh!

DANA: Well, Shane, I just don’t think we EVER danced together before.

SHANE (holding out her hand): Dana, it’s a 3 minute song. Are we gonna do this or what?

DANA (shrugs and takes Shane’s hand): Okay.

(IT’S A SLOW SONG. THEY PUT THEIR ARMS AROUND EACH OTHER. SHANE SEEMS VERY COMFORTABLE, BUT DANA — NOT SO MUCH.
THEY DANCE FOR A MINUTE. SHANE’S HANDS SLOWLY MOVE OVER DANA’S BODY.)

    SHANE: Try to relax.

    DANA: I’m relaxed.

    SHANE: Honey, you’re shaking.

DANA (defensively): I am not, I’m dancing.

    SHANE (pulls away a little,
    looks at Dana, cups her
chin gently, says softly): What’s the problem?

    DANA (staring into
Shane’s eyes): Nothing…..I….you…..(sighs and lowers her head)

    SHANE: Talk to me Dana.

    DANA (a little
irritably): Shane, you make me so nervous sometimes.

SHANE: What?!? Why? What’d I do?

    DANA: You have NO idea.

SHANE: Well no Dana, not till you TELL me.

(DANA DISENGAGES FROM SHANE. WALKS BACK TO THE TABLE)

SHANE: Ya know, I expect this kind of behavior from the women I sleep with, but not from my friends.

DANA: Oh? And do you always dance with your “friends” that way?

    SHANE: WHAT way?

DANA: Shane, your hands…… (turns away) Never mind.

SHANE (thinking): Oh. OH! Oh ***** Dana, I’m sorry. I didn’t even realize. I’m just so used to…..

DANA: It’s okay. I’m sure I’m just overreacting.

SHANE (under her breath): Well, it’s not like I went inside your…..

    DANA: SHANE!

SHANE (biting her lip, trying to
    suppress a grin): Sorry.

    (NEITHER SPEAKS FOR A MINUTE)

DANA: How can you be so…..sexual all the time?

SHANE: Well, first off, I don’t happen to think that’s a bad thing. (lightly) But look, I do apologize for the naughty hands. I’ll be sure to wash them out with soap when I get home.

DANA: [gives Shane her disapproving “not funny” look]

SHANE (takes Dana’s hand): Hey, you know I didn’t mean anything by that right? I mean, you do know that? Right? You know I don’t think of you that way.

DANA (sounding juuust a little hurt): Well yeah, of course.

SHANE (picking up on the hurt tone): Not that you’re not attractive Dana, ’cause man, you ARE! I mean *****, any woman would be…..

    DANA: Shane.

SHANE: Sorry. (sips her beer) So…you want another one?

    DANA: Yes, please.

[SHANE MOTIONS THE CUTE WAITRESS (is there any other kind?) OVER]

WAITRESS (big smile): Hi, ready for more?

    SHANE (giving waitress her
sexiest grin): Yeah hon’, 2 more beers.

    WAITRESS (beaming,
touches Shane’s arm): Be right back, don’t miss me too much.

    DANA (shaking her head,
    watches the waitress leave,
    and watches Shane watch
the waitress leave): (muttering) Gee, I would’ve thought you’d already HAD all the waitresses in town by now.

SHANE: Dana, is there something else going on here?

DANA: (nonchalantly sips her empty beer) I really don’t know what you mean.

SHANE: (sly smile) Well, I’ll tell you what I mean.

SHANE MOVES HER CHAIR CLOSER TO DANA’S, TAKES HER FACE IN HER HANDS, AND SLOWLY LEANS IN TO KISS HER…GIVING DANA PLENTY OF TIME TO STOP HER. IF SHE WANTS TO.

    CHAPTER 2

It’s amazing just how many thoughts can go through your mind in 5 seconds: “Oh my God, she’s going to kiss me!” “Shane is going to kiss me.” “I’M going to kiss Shane.”

Then their lips met and the first thing Dana noticed was her surprise that Shane’s kiss was so tender. Something about the “love ‘em and leave ‘em” type — she just assumed everything about Shane would be more “macho” somehow. But she wasn’t; It was the sweetest, softest kiss. At first. After that, she didn’t do much thinking at all. She couldn’t even really tell you who was the first to deepen the kiss. Not that it mattered; after the first few seconds it was obvious these two women had finally discovered something they both found equally interesting and enjoyable.

(And everyone said they had nothing in common.)

“YOUR BEERS!” the waitress shouted over the music as she slammed the two bottles down on the table and huffed away.

Shane and Dana laughed nervously as they were unceremoniously ripped away from the sensual playground they had found themselves in.

“I think we pissed off your girlfriend,” Dana smiled as she reached for her drink. “She’s not my girlfriend,” Shane smiled back.

After a few moments of extremely uncomfortable silence, Dana asked,” So, why did you do that?”

“Honestly Dana, I always wanted to,” Shane said as she sipped her beer.

“Gee Shane, you hid that desire really well. I mean, you never even….

“Well ya know, if you didn’t put me down all the time, for the way I dress, the way I act, just about everything ABOUT me, maybe we would’ve gotten closer….”

“Well if I annoy you so much, what the ***** are you doing KISSING me?!?”

    “I don’t KNOW! What was I thinking?!?”

“When it comes to women Shane, you really don’t think, do you?”

Well, that tore it. Shane didn’t need this. Just because Dana was a great kisser and her body fit so well with her on the dance floor didn’t change the fact that she was still “Dana.” Still a (really cute) pain in the *****!

“I’m outta here,” Shane said as she threw some money on the table and walked away.

Dana couldn’t believe it. “What the ***** just HAPPENED here?!?,” she thought as she got up and ran after Shane.

When she caught up with her by the front door, she spun her around and pushed her up against the wall. “Whoa, butch, remember your image,” Shane smirked.

“It’s not funny Shane.” Dana could’ve kicked herself for the tears that started to come to her eyes.

“Hey….are you really upset?” Well, of course now Shane did a complete turnaround.

“Come on hon’ don’t cry…” she whispered and reached up to wipe away Dana’s tears.

Now, Dana had never been the aggressor with anyone in her life. But with Shane’s face so close she could feel her breath, that ***** voice now talking so sweetly to her, and her emotions all OVER the place, all she wanted at that moment was to get lost in another kiss that lasted for… oh, perhaps a week!

She could still taste Shane, still feel the softness of her tongue in her mouth, and she wanted more…

So throwing caution, common sense, and the last remnants of her dignity to the wind, she pinned Shane against the wall and kissed her like she’d never kissed anyone.

The one at the table before? An appetizer. This was the four-course meal. Every part of their bodies was getting involved in this one. Dana wanted to climb inside Shane and set up shop. And for her part, Shane was more than willing to accommodate her…except for the fact that they WERE in a bar.

“Uh, Dana?” Shane breathed into Dana’s mouth.

    Mmm?”

    “You want to leave?”

    CHAPTER 3

The ride to Dana’s house in Shane’s car was…..quiet.

Okay, maybe the fog was beginning to lift for Dana. And some sanity was creeping back into the picture. (“damn sanity!”)

She looked over at Shane. “She’s right though,” she mused, “I do disapprove of the way she dresses. And the way she acts. And just about everything about her. What am I DOING going home with this woman?!?”

Ever since Lara ended, she had NOT been herself, she thought ruefully. This whole evening was just another example of how off the track her life had become.

As soon as she found out none of the other girls were going to be able to make it tonight, she should’ve just stayed home. What possessed her to hang out with Shane? And wasn’t it just, like, last week that she was wondering what women even saw in Shane? And now it appeared she was going to be the latest notch on her bedpost. What HAPPENED back there?!?

At that moment, they came to a red light. Shane reached over and gently kissed Dana’s hand. Then she leaned over even more, got real close to Dana’s face and softly said, “You okay babe?” her breath tickling Dana’s cheek. Dana’s eyes closed, slowly, and totally of their own volition. And any sense of disapproval she’d ever harbored for this woman went flying out the window, along with any remaining vestiges of that annoying sanity that had been lingering.

“Just fine,” she managed to croak.

    Shane grinned.

“Okay,” Dana thought, “this is more than just ‘confidence’ working here. She must have some kind of magic mojo-thingie going on, ’cause this just ain’t right. I mean, did she slip something in my beer? Is THAT how she gets all her women? I feel like I’ve been hypnotized!”

“So, how’s the weather where you are?” Shane interrupted Dana’s mind rumblings.

    “What?”

“Well, you’re obviously far away Dana, want to join me for awhile?”

    “Sorry, I was just thinking.”

“Yeah, I could see that. Looked like you were doing calculus in your head. What’re ya trying to figure out there?”

    “No, I….um……Hey! Look, we’re here!”

Shane parked and before Dana knew what was happening, Shane had jumped out of the car and opened the door for her. “Chivalry isn’t dead,” Dana smiled nervously.

When they got inside, they both reached for the light switch. Dana stumbled against Shane, who gracefully caught her and held her in her arms. My God, Dana thought, I’m a walking cliche.

“You probably think I did that on purpose, but really, I….”

Shane put her hand to Dana’s lips, shushing her. “It’s okay hon’.” Then Shane turned the light back off.

“Shane wait, I don’t know what I’m doing here.”

Shane cocked her head and said, “This is your house Dana.”

“Well of course I know what I’m doing HERE. Oh, you’re joking. Funny.”

“Yeah well, I like to start with a joke sometimes, eases the tension,” Shane grinned.

Then, in the moonlight coming through the window, Dana saw the most incredible expression on Shane’s face — intense, sexual. It just dissolved her. She leaned into Shane, wanting to feel that body against hers. She closed her eyes and waited for Shane to press her into the wall and devour her right there.

But instead, she felt soft kisses on her temples, down her cheeks, to her neck, and then up to her lips, which by this time were begging for attention. Dana couldn’t help the little animal-like sounds she was emitting.

Then she finally found herself exploring Shane’s mouth again — that unexpectedly, deliciously sweet mouth. She hastily began unbuttoning Shane’s shirt and started to run her nails over her shoulders and down her back. Shane moaned into Dana’s mouth as she pulled her blouse out of her pants and reached up to cup Dana’s *****.

    Music…Was that music?….

It was Shane’s cell phone. Startled, Dana pulled back for a moment. Shane muttered a curse under her breath, quickly shut off the phone, and without looking, tossed it over her shoulder.

But the damage was done. The spell had been broken. Dana took a step away, fixing her blouse as she did so.

“Um, Dana….Is there something wrong?” Shane managed to to get out, in a voice that was even huskier than usual.

Dana poured it all out in one long run-on sentence, “Shane….I can’t, not if it’s just going to be this one time, I just can’t, I want to, GOD I want to, I mean if you could harness all the sexual energy in my body right now you could power a small city for a week, but ya know, what about tomorrow, how am I going to feel tomorrow, I’m not like all the other girls you sleep with, well except maybe for Lacey ’cause she needed more too, well no, nobody’s like Lacey, I mean she was just crazy Shane, I can’t believe THAT’S the woman you sleep twice with, jeez what were you thinking?…”

“Whoa, Dana, Dana, slow down there hon’, you’re gonna swallow your tongue, you keep talking that fast.”

Dana took a deep breath. “Can we sit down for a minute?” Dana said softly.

Shane gave a heavy sigh and followed Dana to the couch. Dana turned on the small lamp. Shane squinted. “Sorry,” Dana said, “I’ll switch it on low.”

It was one of the hardest questions she’d ever asked anyone, but she managed to get it out, “Shane, do you have any actual feelings for me?”

“What kind of a question is that? We’re half undressed here.”

“Don’t play dumb. You know that has nothing to do with what I’m asking you. Please just answer the question.”

Shane rubbed her hand across her chin and down her throat and then looked intently up at the ceiling, as if hoping to miraculously find the answer written up there. After a minute, she looked Dana in the eye and said, “Look, it’s pretty obvious how much we want to be with each other. And it’s not like we just met. We’ve known each other for what, how long now…?”

“Yeah Shane, but that’s just it, we’ve never really gotten to know each other, have we?”

Shane reached for Dana’s hands and softly said, “I care about you Dana, is what I’m trying to say.” “If we have ***** tonight – and if there’s a God in heaven we will – but if we do, I can’t tell you what’s gonna happen tomorrow. But I can pretty much guarantee what’s gonna happen tonight: It’s gonna be incredible.”

Then she kissed the corner of Dana’s mouth, then the other, teasing Dana’s lips with her tongue until she gave in to her again. And as she eagerly opened her mouth to Shane’s increasingly hungry kisses, Dana felt like she was taking a very long ride on the world’s largest emotional rollercoaster. And at that exact moment, she made a conscious decision to no longer give a *****!

She had to admit it to herself. There was something so seductively attractive, and yet also so endearing, about Shane. The combination was irresistible. It made you want to drink in as much of her as she was willing to give you.

Dana wanted nothing more than to have this night with Shane.

And she knew it would change her somehow, one way or the other, to have Shane’s undivided romantic attention, even if only for one night. But if that’s all it was going to be, if that’s all she could have, she would find a way to deal with it….tomorrow. Tonight Shane belonged to her.

    The End

    Comments

    1. This was pretty cool. I always thought there would be something kinda cool about seeing Dana and Shane together. The funny thing is that if it only lastedfor one night I’m sure it would only be between them. That would be their secret. Great Job.
