White Flag
My Dearest Helen,
I know you think that I shouldn’t still love you,
Or tell you that.
But if I didn’t say it, well I’d still have felt it
where’s the sense in that?
I promise I’m not trying to make your life harder
Or return to where we were
I know I left too much mess and
destruction to come back again
And I caused nothing but trouble
I understand if you can’t talk to me again
And if you live by the rules of “it’s over”
then I’m sure that that makes sense
And when we meet
Which I’m sure we will
All that was there
Will be there still
I’ll let it pass
And hold my tongue
And you will think
That I’ve moved on….
I will go down with this ship
And I won’t put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door
I’m in love and always will be
Yours,
Nikki
Helen folded the letter. She held on to it for months, even though she was with Thomas. Helen hadn’t moved on… she got sidetracked. But now, with Nikki being set free, all the rules were changed.
She had to celebrate with Nikki, but when saw her with Trish – her gorgeous Trish – the wind was knocked out of her sails. How could she expect Nikki to be waiting for her with open arms after what she had put her through. Nikki was stuck behind bars, and she was carrying on with Thomas, torturing Nikki. Of course she went back to Trish.
She opened the letter one more time…she did think Nikki moved on. Had she? Had she surrendered, given up on Helen? It was too much to bear. The letter was crumbling in her fist. She looked up. She had to leave, had to find some relief from the pain.
“Helen!”
Helen spun to the voice… was she dreaming.
It was Nikki. It was always Nikki, and it was always would be Nikki. There would never be a white flag from Helen.
Great thanks to Victory1116 ‘s YouTube video that inspired this small story…
