That Thing You Do…
Sophie felt a buzz on her thigh, her phone was on silent, by Paula’s request, and she had been waiting with anticipation for the feeling against her leg for when the next message from Paula may arrive and that buzz meant it had done so. She hoped that the breath that caught in her throat with that slight vibration, that only she was aware of, wasn’t for the sake of someone else’s text message, that would not be funny.
It had already been quite a day so far, including a disastrous match making exercise from her mum. Isla was a really nice girl and Sophie felt an ease in talking to her. Sophie was sure that in different circumstances they would probably get on quite well, but in all seriousness why would their paths ever have cause to cross again? She wondered whether Isla had felt the same level of annoyance at her own mum in setting up the lunch blind date?
She was certainly annoyed knowing it was Sally’s intention that the common ground of both her and Paula having a gay daughter was something to be celebrated as opposed to one of life’s little coincidences. She would often tell her mum just because she was gay didn’t mean it was a green light for an automatic date with someone else who was also gay.
Sophie took an inward breath before sliding her phone from her pocket, holding her breath as she looked at the screen. Her nostrils involuntarily flared when the name of ‘Paula’ appeared on the home screen against the alert.
“I uh, I’m just going upstairs.”
“Okay love”, Sally said not even lifting her head in response.
Sophie went into the bathroom and locked the door, planting her bottom on the edge of the bath. She felt an increase in her pulse and an added pounding in her chest. What was it with this woman.
Sophie slid her finger across the screen of her phone to unlock it, allowing the message to pop open.
“I enjoyed spending time with you today…”
Sophie smiled, she had enjoyed spending time with Paula too, far more than she had enjoyed anything else in recent months.
She quickly typed a response hoping that Paula would respond, “me too, I only wish there were less interruptions :)”

Hi Jobadge,
Welcome back, i love your stories and am a big fan from your Bette & Tina stories. They are so deep and heartbreaking sometimes.
I hope you will write more about them.
I never heard about Coronation Street, but will follow this story.

So great to have you back no matter the subject. Of course, we prefer Bette and Tina but, we will accept whatever you send our way. Have not watched Coronation Street but, did know about it. Maybe I will find that and try to watch it. Thank you for coming back to us.
