Bette continues to hold Tina on her lap tightly while cooing gently in her ear in hopes of calming her down. Kate rushes over to them drawing Bette’s attention. Bette begins speaking, her voice tight and laced with venom and anger. “Kate – I want an explanation. What the fuck is this?! Why–”
Kate cuts Bette off. “I know you’re angry Bette; I’m going to find out what the hell happened. Please, get Tina to the car. I’m going to address this, and I’ll be out in 20 minutes with answers for you.” If looks could kill, Kate would be obliterated with Bette’s current glare. Kate presses on. “Please Bette. I have no answers for you right now. I have no right to ask you for anything, but I’m asking for 20 minutes; 20 minutes and I’ll have your answers.”
Bette doesn’t answer Kate directly, instead, she turns her attention back to Tina. “Baby? My Love?” Bette speaks softly and lovingly as she pulls Tina’s face from her neck and looks in her swollen, red rimmed eyes. “There’s my beautiful girl.” Bette rakes her fingers gently through the blonde hair. “Baby, we’re going to wait for Kate in the car okay. She’s going to explain what happened here, but she has to talk to some officers first. Will you come with me to the car?”
Tina looks at Bette in panic. “Am I in trouble? Am I going to jail? I didn’t mean to hurt you Bette. I love you! I don’t know what happened. I’m so sorry. Please don’t let them take me.”
“Shh, shh. You’re not going anywhere Baby. I’m fine, and I know you weren’t trying to hurt me – you thought you were being attacked and you were just trying to fight back. You didn’t realize it was me. Everything’s going to be okay Baby. Kate’s going to get us some answers, and I’m going to try to get us in to see Dan Foxworthy for an emergency session tonight. So, we’re going to go sit and relax in the car until Kate comes out. Okay Baby?”
Tina looks around her noticing the officers around pretending to not be watching the couple on the floor. Tina looks at Bette anxiously. “Okay, just… don’t leave my side Bette.”
