Bette: What was the meaning of this talk?
Tina pushes her duffle bag aside and sits down next to Bette.
Tina: He said some things that made me think……he mentioned some valid points…
Tina looks down and plays with her fingers.
Tina: Some very good points actually….
Bette: What points?
Tina: About marriage, and kids….and the throne.
Bette rolls her eyes.
Bette: Please pay no attention to him. We do not have to discuss such things right now…
Tina: But in the future you want all those things correct?
Bette: Of course, as do you. Correct?
Tears comes to Tina’s eyes as she shrugs.
Tina: I thought I did…. I think I still do…. I just think I need a little time to think about things.
Bette: By things you mean our relationship, yes?
Tina nods as she wipes her eyes.
Bette stands up and begins to pace.
Bette: But you said you were looking forward to marrying me…that you would love nothing more than to have children with me. That it would be your honor to bear our children. What has changed?
Tina: I didn’t say I’m totally reneging on anything I said I’m just saying that your dad made me realize that we’re moving…. really fast. I just need to think.
Bette stops pacing and stares at Tina.
Bette: If you love me, what is there to think about?
Tina: Bette, I do love you. Just give me a little time to think, okay?
Bette puts her hands on her hips and shrugs.
Bette: Fine, not like I have a choice in this matter.
Tina: Ya know you’re the one that told me if I ever needed to take a step back to reevaluate things I shouldn’t hesitate to tell you. Now I take you up on your offer you get mad at me?
Bette: I am upset because if feels very much like you are only delaying the inevitable. Your entire body langue is telling me that you no longer want to be with me. After only one talk with my father. If you truly loved me, you wouldn’t be so easily swayed.
Tina: I never said I didn’t wan to be with you Bette, but I am saying I need time and I’m taking it.
Bette: How much time do you need?
Tina: As much as it takes for me to figure some things out.
Bette stares at Tina with tears in her eyes.
Bette: To figure out whether I am worth the hassle?
Tina’s heart sinks.
Tina: No…. that’s not…
Bette: It’s fine. I completely understand, I hope everything goes beautifully with your parents. Good bye Christina.
Before Tina can respond, Bette is already gone. She takes a deep breath and covers her face with her hand as he allows her tears to fall….
