“How did you get the time frame?” Bette asked, confused.
“Well,” AJ shrugged, “one victim each month- each was tortured for approximately a week based on the wounds, dehydration and starvation. They were always reported missing in the middle of the month.”
Bette nodded, biting her lower lip “how did she die?- Victoria?”
“It’s difficult to tell,” AJ said looking at the photo of the body, “she also was bludgeoned, burned, carved, and electrocuted…”
“Not strangled?” Bette asked, looking closely at the neck of the body.
AJ shook her head, “it seemed to be a pattern, each victim appeared to be less tortured than the next, but all consisted of a carving.”
Bette noticed the etching of symbols on the woman’s chest, “what does it mean?”
“We don’t know,” AJ shrugged before laying another photo out. “Third victim, Alyssa Middleton, she was a defense attorney. Fourth victim was Monica Garrett, a professor at Howard University. Fifth victim was Claire Hayden- a homicide detective at the 12th, Sixth victim was Brenda Densier- a sociological researcher at Georgetown, seventh victim was Taylor Stewart- the head financial advisor for Brown Software.”
“All top-notch jobs…” Bette said, realizing the profession denominator between all the victims.
“Eighth victim…” AJ whispered, “Christina Kennard- a Supervisory Special Agent with the Elite Behavioral Analysis Unit.”
“Was he watching her the whole time you guys were on the case?” Bette asked softly.
AJ nodded, “he would taunt us-send us pictures and what-not of Tina. We tried to hold multiple press releases to try and see if we could spot a man with a camera-but nothing. Tina was stubborn as always and said not to worry about her and to focus on the victims that are dead.”
Bette swallowed hard, “is there any pictures of what happened to her?”
AJ shook her head, “Kenny had all the original files. Delia and Will had the others, but they took them with them when they left… there really wasn’t much to go off of because Ken didn’t tell us a lot.”
Bette nodded and took a deep breath, “so Greyson is right?”
AJ cocked her brow at Bette, “what do you mean?”
“He said something about how he thinks the UnSub doesn’t want to kill her- but destroy her psychologically.”
