    Shane & Alice – Upside down – # 1 – Broken hearts

It was so typical. She’d once heard a song about happiness being
something intangible that slipped right through your fingers And that
was exactly how she felt right now. She should have known it was all
too good to be true. It was only a game, she should have known.

In the beginning, she had unintentionally been playing Carmen, making
her fall in love with her without wanting to commit, and now Carmen had
done the same thing to her. No. Carmen had done it
just to get back at her.

“I’m never EVER trusting anyone again,” Shane thought to herself
and looked down in her coffee cup. The coffee was getting cold, she’d
completely forgotten about it as she had been lost in her thoughts.

“Shane, honey, you okay?” Shane looked up to see Kit standing by her table at The Planet with a concerned look in her dark eyes.

“I’m fine,” Shane replied, her voice barely a whisper.

“You sure ’bout that?” Kit said sceptically. “You don’t look like you’re fine.”

“I am. Thanks for asking, but it’s nothing.”

“If you say so” Kit glanced around The Planet as if she was looking
for someone. “Bette and Tina are coming by soon and they’re bringing
Angelica, maybe that will bring a smile to that sad face of yours!”

“Yeah Maybe it will,” Shane replied, a small smile forming on her lips. “Maybe it will”

A couple of minutes later, Bette and Tina with Angelica in her arms and
with Alice following closely behind, entered The Planet. They
immediately noticed Shane and headed over to her table.

“Hi, Shane!” Tina smiled and handed Angelica over to her. “Can you
baby-sit her for a couple of minutes? Me and Bette have to talk to Kit.”

“Yeah, sure,” Shane nodded and cradled the three weeks old baby in her
arms. Angelica smiled brightly at her and Shane chuckled at how right
Kit had been. How could anyone stay sad and broody around Bette and
    Tina’s little beam of sunshine?

There was no fooling Alice though. “Shane, what’s going on? You’re starting to worry me.”

    “What?”

    “Shane”

“I just miss Jenny,” Shane said without taking her eyes off Angelica.
As much as she loved her, playing with her was such a great excuse.
“The house is really empty without her. Mark is just in his studio and
it’s not the same when she’s not around.”
