    Sidewalk

Bette looked around almost opened mouthed at the large open plan space. It was very Tina. it looked lived in.

“Welcome to my apartment, I thought we could talk better here, erm are you hungry?”

“I could eat,” Bette said as she put her purse and jacket onto the sofa, she followed Tina into the large kitchen where Tina guested for her to sit at the island, Bette did. Taking out her phone she texted Angie, letting her know she was going to be late.

Tina moved around the kitchen starting to prepare a meal for them.

    “I’m sorry,” Bette said softly,

Tina stopped in the middle of the kitchen and turned to her former girlfriend.

“I’m sorry for what I did seventeen years ago. I’m sorry I got so lost in the me, that I did the unthinkable and cheated on you. I’m sorry for the pain I’ve caused to you and I’m sorry we’ve lost all this time,”  Bette’s eyes were filled with tears as she spoke. Tina just stood looking at her. she hadn’t expected this.

“I’m sorry I ran away,” Tina whispered. “I needed too. I needed to get away, I didn’t think I’d not see you again. With time passing it got harder to go back and I couldn’t face it,”

“I was wrong Tina. I…” Bette stopped.

“I think we were both a little to blame.” Tina said, “I never should have given up my job.”

    “I shouldn’t have cheated.”

They were both silent for a moment.

“Tina, I have a daughter,” Bette said honestly after a few moments.

    “You have a child?”

“Yeh, Angie, she’s amazing and she’s saved me. She’s fifteen.”

    “Are you with her mother?”

“I’m her mother,” Bette said softly.

    “Her other mother?” Tina asked,

“I was single when I had her.”

    “You…”

“Yeah my biological clock was ticking and I went for it, look I’m telling you before we get into everything, in case something more happens between us. I don’t want to hide her from you.”

“I…” Tina didn’t know what to say, Bette had a daughter.

    “You didn’t have children.”

    “I can’t,” Tina whispered.

    “Can’t?” Bette was confused.

Tina rubbed hand along her lower abdomen, where she knew her scar was.

“Yeah I can’t. erm. about three weeks after I left a lorry driver fell asleep at the wheel and it went into the motel I was staying in, I had some internal injuries and I had to have a hysterectomy.”

    1. Thanks for the update… Bette has had a child and Tina as a result of an car accident cannot have children. A seventeen year separation is a very long time… good to take things slow and get to know one another. Keep it coming.

    2. Sorry to hear Covid catched you, hope you feel better.

They should take it slow, a lot has happened. They need to talk about the past and then move forward.

Bette with a daughter, Tina with her accident which left childless and the resent scare with i think breast cancer?
