    Kenter Ranch

    Duke’s Avenue

    Outside of West Sunbury

Tina slowly opened her eyes and looked directly at the ceiling. There wasn’t a warmth next to her, she knew that Bette had gone for her morning call. She remembers Bette kissing her and gently telling her before slipping out of bed.

Tina lay still, slowly waking. Her mind was already racing. The last thing she wanted was to look at her phone, she didn’t want to see the message that people had left. Slowly she sat up and ran her hand threw her hair. She felt weak. Yesterday had taken it out  her.

The bedroom door opened and Bette walked in, smiling softly. She sat on Tina’s side of the bed and took her hand, gently playing with her fingers.

    “Morning,” Bette whispered.

    “Hey, you okay?” Tina asked,

“Shouldn’t I be asking you that?”

“I’m good, glad you’ve not just left me.”

“I’m not going to leave you because you have mental health issues. I love you Tina. You’re everything to me, I’m gong to try and protect you as much as possible.”

“I would say I don’t need your protection but I fear that I do. I love you Bette. I’m sorry for yesterday,”

“No, don’t be sorry. Listen to me. We never talked about medication or how you deal with your mental health issues. I just thought that it had been dealt with. I’ve been doing some reading while you were sleeping.”

“And what’s your conclusion?” Tina asked,

“That mental health isn’t cured, it’s something you live with for the rest of your life. It’s okay to not be okay. I’ve got to be open to you. listen to there for you.”

“How was your morning meeting?” Tina asked, wanting to subject to change from her.

    Bette smiled.

“A little longer than I wanted, as we needed to talk about you.”

    “What about me?”

“I hate that people have attacked you, but at the same time, you’re my woman. you’re the woman I love. The woman I want to spend the rest of my life with. I’ve lost seventeen years with you and I’m not willing to lose anymore. Dani thinks we should formally say we are living together.”
