Chapter Thirty-Nine

“Did you see that look Kelly gave you?”

Kit asks me as we await at the bar for a glass of carbonated water and a beer.

“Yeah, I did. I’m just wondering what it was.” I say.

“It didn’t look pleasant, Bette.”

“I know and I’m afraid it may have pissed her off more.”

“Do you think she’s going to try and do anything?”

“That’s what I’m afraid of.”

“Girl, I think you and Peggy are going to hit all three bases and straight to home run with whatever you guys cook up because Peggy is a powerful woman and you are very intelligent, Bette.”

“Let’s just hope Kelly doesn’t have anything up her sleeve that we can’t see coming.” I say.

“I’m pretty sure Peggy can handle it baby girl.”

“Kelly can be sneaky sometimes.”

“Then you’ll just have to keep an eye on her white ass.”

“The Planet! The Planet!” Angie says screaming at the top of her lungs.

“Yes, we are at the Planet baby.” I say looking back at Angie squirming in Tina’s arms as we head inside the Planet.

I pull my sunglasses from my face and look around to spot Alice sitting by herself looking like she had climbed a mountain of hell.

“Good morning Ms. Hungover Pieszecki.” I say pulling out a chair for Tina and myself as she holds Angie in her arms.

“Ok, not funny, alright?.” Alice says sinking further down in her chair with her glasses covering her eyes.

“Self inflicted pain Al.” Tina says with a chuckle.

“Don’t remind me.”

“Where’s Tasha?” I ask.

“Work, I just had to try and pull myself out of the apartment so I am now on my third cup of coffee this morning.” Alice says before picking up her mug and slowly sipping the coffee.

“Good morning my sweet peas! How is my baby girl doing?”

Our heads turn to see Kit standing there with a smile on her face.

“I’m good Auntie Kit! Can I have waffles with whip cream and strawberries?” Angie asks with excitement in her little voice.

I look at Tina and smile. “I’ll just have a classic omelette and my regular black coffee.”
 
“And how about you Tina?” Kit asks with a smile.
