You and Me – (Chapter: Evaluate and then Re-evaluate)

Sunlight illuminated the room, softly caressing the delicate features of a spunky brunette as she strummed the same chord on her guitar over and over, attempting to nail down the proper note with her voice, “I… I am… I. Shit!” she growled in frustration.

She threw her pick across the room and blew several strands of hair out of her face. Song writing was hard work, writing a song for that special someone in your life was next to impossible, but Ashley Davies wasn’t a quitter… except for smoking but that was decidedly for the better.

Deciding to take a break, she sat down the cherry-wood acoustic guitar her father had given to her for her birthday last year and made her way over to her plush bed. She flopped down onto her stomach and took in deep breath… it smelled like Spencer and she smiled as a rush of warm fuzzy emotions swept through her.

Spencer Carlin, the most beautiful person she had ever met, loved her. The first few days they started dating, Ashley could hardly believe that after all that time and drama, the sweet and innocent blond bombshell from Nowhere, Ohio was hers. ‘Sweet and innocent my ass.’ she grinned devilishly.

She could’ve sworn on the moon and stars that this whole thing was an elaborate dream, her imagination creating vivid and tangible depictions of what she wished would be. A dream she never wanted to wake up from. But it was real and she loved every second of her new reality.

Still, even with the confirmation that this was the real deal, her insecurities plagued her. ‘What the hell does she see in me? I’ve got enough baggage to ground a 747 Jumbo Jet and she knows about my not-so-monogamous past but she’s still sticking around and she lo…’

The word gets stuck in her head the way it gets caught in her throat when she says it in that context. Love is not something that Ashley Davies is used to feeling let alone saying. The neglect from her parents and the lack of emotional attachment to random one night stands didn’t do well help her trouble with the concept either. In fact, the only person she had feelings for that even remotely resembled what she felt for Spencer, was towards Aiden. And even then, those feelings paled in comparison to what engulfed her very being for the blue eyed girl.
