    Memories – (Chapter: Cold Shoulder)

                “My heart.”

    ~

If you fail to remember your past, you are condemned to repeat it.  I can’t mess up again.  I have what most people only dream about; a second chance.  I pull up to the restaurant at exactly four o’clock and walk in.  I am trying not to think about the situation for what it is, because if I do I am going to loose it completely.  I see her with her back to me sitting at the same table we sat at all those years ago.  I admire the place for remaining intact for so long, it allows opportunity for reminiscing.  I inhale a deep breath and make my way over to her.  I lay my hand gently on her shoulder as I walk by to take my seat.  She looks up quickly and smiles at me.  “Hey.”

                “Hi.”

“Sorry I had to run out this morning.  My manager was on my case about a sound check before the concert tonight.”

“I don’t event think I got to tell you how proud of you I am.  I saw your CD in a store and I was so happy to see how far you’ve come, from the days of karaoke at Gray.”

“Oh you saw my CD?  Did you listen to it?”

“Once.”  She shot me a knowing look, raising her eyebrows and tilting her head slightly.  “Twice.”   Her head raises just a bit more, still waiting for the truth; she can still read me like a book.  “Okay, okay I listened to it seven times.”  She laughs and I just look down, blushing hopelessly.

                “What did you think?”

“What do I think?  Do you really have to ask me that?  I flew across the country to come track you down in a bar.”  I could watch her laugh all day.

“Do you want to come to the concert tonight?  I have a ticket in the nosebleed section with your name on.”

                “Oh thanks.”

“No seriously.  I’ll get you a stage pass and you can be right there with me.”

“Oh I don’t know, I’m pretty booked this evening.  Big plans with my dad and all.”
