Los Angeles at night could be two completely different worlds depending on where you are in the massive city. On a street corner somewhere on Sunset, it was as if someone poked an ant hill with people pouring out of and into clubs, concerts, and other venues. Inebriated debauchery or all out brawls weren’t uncommon and neither was the influx of teens flashing their fake I.D.’s just so they can have a few illegal drinks and then regret everything the next morning.
The other world would be the one Ashley was immersed in at the moment. The quiet, suburban, all American neighborhood where bad things didn’t happen to good people and the only complaints were on the crappy job the gardener did when mowing the lawn. Lights were on in living rooms as families gathered around the dinner table to eat or play boggle together. Those families, with their 2.5 children, working parents, dog, two cars, two story house… those good American families… that was the illusion that everyone fed into. And she fucking hated it.
The reality was, ‘What people consider to be normal, never is.’
Dysfunction. That was what really went on. Bad things happened because people couldn’t see that proverbial good American family was a dreadful lie. They couldn’t comprehend that life is a messy, dangerous, beautiful concoction of ups and downs and that the only constant tragedy was that you didn’t know what would happen in the next moment.
Spencer’s family had been living the lie for so long that the disintegration of their good American family nearly crushed them completely, but those Carlin’s were a strong bunch. ‘If the same things that happened to them happened to me, I would’ve taken a pharmaceutical cocktail and called it quits.’ That was a testament to the strength of that family. They broke down and built themselves back up within the voluntary absence of their unofficial ringleader. The four of them were the real good American family, the American dream, and one in particular was Ashley’s dream, embodied in blonde hair, blue eyes, and the biggest heart she had ever seen in another human being.
She was in love with her. There was no denying or explaining away her feelings, not this time. This was the real deal and she knew it. People spent their entire lives looking for what she had and many had died trying. But she, at the age of 16 no less, had found her soul mate amongst the 6 billion people that breathed on the earth. Be it by fate or chance or luck that she found her, it didn’t matter. All that mattered was the girl inside the two story home, with two cars, three children and two separated parents. The girl with the dysfunctional family who functioned fine outside of the lie.

Ashely needs to tell Spencer about her past!! It feels like Ashley just hurts more and more by not telling her!! I just hope Spencer takes it okay. So where’ve ya been?? You’ve been MIA for a good minute!! Hope you post soon and don’t leave us hanging girl!
hehe…totally agree with you about this part…but somehow, the truth’s gotta come out and let’s just hope that spencer’s gonna take it well. glad it’s over (is it ?)…and rEAlly can’t wait for their one month anniversary XD. i wonder how they’re gonna celebrate it…update soon =)

FINALLY! ok so weeks go by, i read ur last post lets say more than 3 times, got my braces tightened, and my 16 birthday passed without so much as a paragraph from u! i could honestly kill u from the stress…obviously i luv this fanfic, but i need one of two things from u, either u give me some hot “stuff” go on between dano and madison, or some straight up drama 4 our lovely couple, and i personally choose the 1st but then again i am a perve lol. i cannot wait to C spences reaction 2 what ash is gonna tell
ok so im “typing” on my PSP and it cut me off, but ne wayz…i totally want to see spences reaction 2 what ash is gonna tell her, but im not worried because i know u wont do anything drastic because if u do, then im holding u responsible 4 my medical bills lol j/k but please dont make me wait so long again!
Is it weird that I’m leaving a comment in my own fic? YES! But I’m doing it anyways. Still, I’m apologizing for the lack of an udpate, writers block, real life, and other crap is getting in the way but I’m doing my best for you crazy kids :) Confused16… HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! 16 was bomb for me and I hope it is for you! As for Dano/Madison lovin… let’s just say I have a deleted scene segment coming up soon so expect a belated b-day present ;)I think you all need to give Ash some time. She’s a tough girl but her past is pretty brutal no thanks to her rash choices. I promise all will be revealed by the end of this fic and your thirst for Spencer knowing everything shall be satiated. In the meantime, hold tight, I have a one shot coming up that I think you’ll all enjoy!
