Don’t Cry Out. – (Chapter: 2. Spinning the web.)

The middle desk drawer on the left side was ecstatic. This was the first time in months it had been opened and rummaged through, and, finally, it didn’t feel so useless anymore. The light poured in, exposing its contents, and the drawer became more and more excited. It was wanted. It was needed. It was-

Spencer closed the drawer, finding its contents useless, and opened the next one with a firm expression of concentration. She pushed aside paper clips, business cards, phone numbers on scrap paper, a tube of lip balm, and a fuzzy, frog-shaped fridge magnet in an attempt to find just what it was she was looking for. Instead, her fingers met the rough wooden bottom of the drawer, and she retrieved her hand before closing it and standing to her full height.

“Where are those stupid batteries?” she grumbled, looking around the room for something else that might hold some AA batteries in commission. “I know we have them…somewhere…”

Biting her lip, Spencer started for the kitchen, planning to go through the junk drawer. However, before she could make it out of her room, something buzzed against her outer thigh; her cellphone.

With a sigh, she stopped to reach into her pocket and pull it out. She looked at the display screen before answering, noting that it was Chelsea on the other end. Starting to head out of her room once again to continue her search, she pressed the answer call button and brought the phone to her ear. “Hey, Chelsea. What’s up?”

On the other end of the line, her friend sounded a little worried. “Yeah, hey Spencer. I was wondering, is something wrong with your home phone? It didn’t even ring, just went right to voicemail.”

Heading down the stairs, now, Spencer chuckled. “Nah, it’s nothing. It needs new batteries; the ones in it are spazzing out. A couple months ago, I thre-…I dropped it.” Spencer silently complimented herself on her fantastic save. Not.

If Chelsea noticed, she didn’t say anything, only laughing slightly. “Nice. Anyway, I was trying to get a hold of Clay, but his phone went right to voicemail, too…you didn’t drop that, too, did you?”

Spencer grinned as she entered the kitchen, flicking on the fluorescent lights overhead and steering herself toward the junk drawer. “He’s at the college again, doing some…extracurricular…college credit…genius thing.” She said, waving her hand through the air as if dismissing the matter. “You know what I mean.” Chelsea’s laugh once again carried through the line.

    3. Ohhh, a pun maniac. My friend Jeff is quite possibly the master, dropping “Accordion to you…” “In a manor of speaking…” and “Just for the halibut…” into conversations with the greatest of ease. I love your inclusion of inanimate objects and their thoughts and actions. The beginning of the fic made me feel bad for my desk drawers, so I opened and shuffled through them guiltily this morning. Is that weird? Don’t answer that….

    5. Aw…That’s so sad how Spencer had to lie because she didn’t want Ashley to know who she really was. *Sniffle* I think it will come back and bite her in the butt later. That sucks but is to be expected…Unless I’m wrong. Did I guess wrong? Will all end well for Spencer/Emily? Plus, you are the Punniest person I know. =) Lol.

    7. I agree with Bannerman and NotTwinny. But, I really like this story. I wonder if Ashley reconizes Spencer but isn’t saying anything. Poor Spencer;( I just wanted to hug her. I like this version of Ash cause its true to chracter. Ash just never treated spencer this way (on the show). She deserves some payback though. Then some love but, payback first.

    9. If I was in that scenario I think I’d take pleasure in informing Ash that she’d fucked me, ditched me, and then flirted with me again cos she’d forgotten who I was – make her as uncomfortable as I’d have felt. Either that or I’d have told her my name and if she said she knew where she remembered me from I’m deny all knowlegde, make her think she was a forgettable shag! She deserves it! But Spencer is obviously not particularly confrontational, which is a shame! I look forward to Ash eventually discovering the truth! write more cos I’m loving it already. Jx
