    Face Down – (Chapter: 14)

Arthur left to get something to drink. I sat there next to Spencer’s bed, still holding her hand. I rested my forehead on our hands. “Spence,” I said softly, “I’m so sorry this happened. I swear on my life that I will never let anyone hurt you ever again. I love you so much. I’m so sorry.”

And little did I know but Spencer smiled a bit in her sleep, as if to say, “everything is ok now.”

I laid my head down on the side of the bed. Arthur walked in. “Are you ok Ashley?” he asked.

“I think so,” I said. I lifted my head up and looked at him. “I’m so relieved to have her back.”

                “Me too,” Arthur smiled.

“How are you doing?” I asked.

“I’m a bit worried about something,” he said.

                “What?” I asked.

“I think Spence is going to need some psychological help,” he said. “Going through something like she did can cause some major problems. I don’t know if she will want to deal with it.”

                “I didn’t think about that,” I said.

“Yeah,” he said. “That’s where I need your help.”

                “Me?” I asked.

“Yes,” he said. “Since she lives with you and you are the most important person in her life, she listens to you. You need to make sure she goes.”

                “I will,” I said. “I promise.”

                “Thanks,” he said.

“Are you staying here tonight or going home?” I asked.

“I don’t know,” he said. “Are you?”

“Yes,” I said. “I’m not letting her out of my sight ever again.”

“Since you’re going to be here,” he said, “I guess I’ll head home.”

“You don’t have to,” I said. “You can stay too.”

“It’s ok,” he said. “I’ll let you have your time with her. I’ll be back in the morning.”

“Ok,” I said. I stood up and gave him a big hug. He leaned down and kissed Spencer’s forehead before leaving with Paula.

It was late but I couldn’t sleep. I stood up and paced the room for a while. I couldn’t relax. So I did the only thing that helps me relax. I started singing Spencer’s favorite song.
