Chapter 8

“Bette…Bette…Bette – wake up!” Tina kissed Bette on the back of the head. Bette’s face was drilled into her pillow. She had been so tired the night before that she passed out the minute her head hit the pillow. “Bette please wake up…Bette, Baby…wake up.”

Bette managed to utter a groggy “Five more minutes T…just five more.” Her voice drifted off. She fell back asleep.

Tina sighed. She knew she’d have to bring out the big guns now. She put her lips next to Bette’s ear. “Baby…I’m late…”

“Yeah…late Babe…late…” Bette’s words drifted off again. She fell back asleep.

“Damn!” Tina knew now that it was time for the heavy artillary. She placed her lips against Bette’s ear and stuck her tongue in it. Bette let out a moan and swatted at Tina playfully. “Tina, that tickles!” Bette burst into laughter and rolled over. Looking up at Tina, Bette said “Ok…I’m awake!”

Tina smiled at Bette. “Babe, I’m late.”

“Late for what?” Bette knew exactly what Tina was referring to, but she loved to tease her.

“Late for my bikini wax – what do you think?”

“Did you do the test?”

“No, I was waiting for you to wake up. I’ve gotta tell you Babe…I really have to pee!”

Bette jumped out of bed. “Well, no time like the present – but please wait until we get to the bathroom!”

“Very funny Porter!”

A few minutes seemed like hours as they waited for the plus sign to appear.

They smiled at each other and shared a gentle kiss.

“I love you Tina.”

“I love you too Bette.”

Tina looked a little apprehensive and said – “I think I’ll see if we can get in to see Dr. Wilson today.”

“Good idea T.”

Bette and Tina arrived at Dr. Wilson’s office an hour later. There was a cancellation – they both thanked God for that.

“Bette”. – it was Dr. Wilson’s voice that pulled Bette back down to earth. She was off somewhere thinking about diapers – or something. “I have this new high tech device that picks up very early heartbeats. Would you like to hear a heartbeat?”

“Yeah I would.” Bette couldn’t help but get caught up in the symantics of the question. Wouldn’t the proper thing have been to say “the heartbeat”. The words were lost on Tina’s ears as she just smiled and squeezed Bette’s hand.

“I’d like to do an ultrasound – just to verify my findings.”

“Ok Tina – move down – feet up.” Bette smiled and thought to herself “Ok, spread ‘em Kennard.” “Are you ok Tina?” Dr. Wilson’s voice snapped Bette back into reality again. Tina nodded. “Ok, here we go.”

Dr. Wilson smiled at the two of them. “Well ladies, there’s a heartbeat here…and there’s a heartbeat…here. Looks like you’re having twins. Congratulations.”

Bette whispered in Tina’s ear – “Isn’t that something like 3 million diaper changes? I love you Baby.”

Suddenly, Tina looked sad. Dr. Wilson looked up and noticed Tina’s reaction. “I’ll give you two some time alone – take all the time you need.” She got up and left the room.

“Tina, this is the part where we’re supposed to be happy.” Bette put her arms around Tina and Tina began to cry. “Baby – tell me what’s wrong – please.”

“What if it happens again? What if something goes wrong? I don’t know if I can deal with that Bette.”
Bette put her hand under Tina’s chin and gently lifted her face up so they were looking at each other. She said softly – “And what if everything goes right? Nine months from now we’ll have two beautiful babies – and we’ll be hopelessly sleep deprived – and we’ll both be crabby as all ***** and…”

Tina cut her off – “Ok, I get your point. I’m just scared – that’s all.”

“I know – you know I’ll never forget the first little guy.” Tears welled in Bette’s eyes.

“I won’t either. We didn’t even really know him – but I miss him.”

“Me too…me too.” Bette’s voice trailed off as she embraced Tina.

“Twins Bette! We’re having twins!’

“Yeah, we’re having twins. God Tina, two babies – how great is that?”

“Twice the expense.” said Tina.

“Twice the deduction!” Bette smiled.

Tina ran her fingers through Bette’s hair. “Twice the love.”

“Yeah – twice the love…twice the love.” Bette tenderly kissed Tina’s lips and whispered, “Twice the love T.”


Later that evening all the “usual suspects” gathered at Bette and Tina’s house. Tim arrived about an hour after everyone else. Bette and Tina greeted him with hugs and kisses. Shane, Alice and Dana watched from across the room.

“Since when did Tim become such an object of affection for the two of them?” Shane asked.

“I don’t know – but this is kind of weird don’t you think?” Alice said – her curiosity peaked.

What they didn’t know was that Tim had been a great support for both Bette and Tina over the last several months. They had both confided in him after Bette’s affair and as a result, they had all grown very fond of each other. He was like a brother to them. They had grown to realize what a wonderful man he was and could understand Jenny’s reluctance to let go of him. There were many afternoons when they would come home from work to find the pool cleaned or the lawn neatly groomed. It was Tim who had done it for them.
One time in particular stood out for Bette and Tina. They both arrived home at the same time – the lawn had been mysteriously mowed and the shrubs trimmed. A note on their door read:

“Dear Bette and Tina,
I was doing my lawn and I swung by to do yours. I hope you don’t mind. Spend the time you would have spent on yardwork enjoying each other and taking care of each other.
Let me know if there’s anything else you need.
Love you guys!

Tim

They both knew at that point that their relationship with Tim had taken a turn. They were thankful to have such a great friend. Tim was equally thankful that they had taken Jenny under their wing and kept an eye on her. Jenny and Tim had made peace with each other and moved on with their lives. Tim was no longer in love with Jenny but still loved her dearly. He was acutely aware of her poor judgement and felt more secure in the fact that Bette and Tina were there for her.

Tina stood by the pool and said “Ok everybody – Bette and I have something to say.”

Everyone’s attention was on them. Bette cleared her throat and said “First of all, we want to thank all you guys for your support over the last few months. And we want you to know that we’re ok…we’re better than ok…we’re great!” Bette reached for Tina’s hand and gave it a squeeze. Tina added- “And we’re pregnant…with twins!”
Alice dropped her glass – it shattered, Shane choked on her beer, Jenny had no clue what to do, Kit burst into tears and Dana exclaimed “Holy *****!”
Bette stared at them and then smiled and said, “We knew you’d all be thrilled!”

Tim looked at Tina, nodded, winked and smiled. Alice saw the interaction between them – “That’s it” she thought “Tim’s the father!”

“Oh my god Baby girl – I’m so happy for you.”
“Thanks Kit – and thanks for everything.”
“Melvin is gonna ***** his pants…” Kit continued to speak but Bette wasn’t really listening.

Tina walked over to Alice. “So, how come everyone thinks Tim’s the father Alice?”

“I saw the look he gave you..the wink…the smile.” said Alice.

Bette watched Tina from across the room. She followed every move she made with her eyes. She smiled and thought “Look at her – she’s so pretty – so ***** and she’s carrying our babies. I’m so lucky. She’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen-and she’s mine. She’s chosen to spend her life with me.”

At that moment, Tina glanced over at Bette. Their eyes met from across the room. They smiled at each other. Bette mouthed “I love you” and blew Tina a kiss. Tina raised her hand to her cheek and caught the kiss. She smiled and winked at Bette.

“Ah, Kit, excuse me – I need to talk to Tina about something…” Bette moved toward Tina.

“Hey Alice – not that it’s any of your business, but, Tim is not the father…Will you excuse me, I need to talk to Bette about something.” Tina moved toward Bette.

They met each other in the middle of the room.

Bette pressed her lips to Tina’s ear – “I want you Tina – I’ve wanted you all day.”

Tina pressed her lips to Bette’s ear – She let out a soft moan that made Bette’s knees buckle. “I want you too. You wouldn’t believe the things I’m doing to you in my mind Baby.”

Bette pressed her lips to Tina’s ear – “Tell me what you’re doing to me.”

Tina pressed her lips to Bette’s ear – “I’m kissing you – every square inch of you. I’m touching your *****. Baby, your nipples are so hard. Can you feel my lips…my tongue, on your nipples? Can you feel me sucking your nipples?”

Bette pressed her lips to Tina’s ear – “Oh God, what else are you doing to me?”

Tina pressed her lips to Bette’s ear – she gently put her tongue in Bette’s ear. “I’m spreading you with my tongue and tasting you. I’m sliding my tongue up and down you. Bette, can you feel my tongue?” Tina moaned.

Bette pressed her lips to Tina’s ear – She found it more difficult to speak this time. “I can feel your tongue on me. How do I taste Tina?” Bette moaned softly in Tina’s ear.

Tina pressed her lips to Bette’s ear – “You taste real sweet Baby. The sweetest thing I’ve ever tasted. I’m sucking your *****. Now my tongue is inside you. Oh my God Bette – you’re so *****.” Tina was breathing hard.

Bette pressed her lips to Tina’s ear – “Oh Tina…my God…what else…?” She couldn’t form the words.

Tina pressed her lips to Bette’s ear – “I’m touching you – my fingers are inside you. I’m moving my fingers in and out of you. God Baby, you’re so *****, so hot and so wet.”

Bette pressed her lips to Tina’s ear – she searched for her voice – “Do you want to make me ***** Tina?” A moan escaped from Bette’s lips.

Tina pressed her lips to Bette’s ear – “Yes Baby, I want to make you *****. What do you need me to do to you to make you *****? Tell me Baby.”

Bette pressed her lips to Tina’s ear – “Press your body up against mine – real close Baby. Kiss me like we’re the only two people in the world Tina. Then I need you to hold me – just hold me.”

Tina pressed her lips to Bette’s ear – “Ok Babe – this is for you.” Tina pressed her body against Bette’s – as close as she could. Then Tina grabbed the sides of Bette’s face and kissed her passionately. They both felt waves of pleasure wash over them. Tina held Bette tight. They both moaned softly – so noone else would hear.

Tina pressed her lips to Bette’s ear – “I love you Bette – you were great.”

Bette pressed her lips to Tina’s ear – I love you too. Tina, you were better than great.”

Kit, Shane and Alice watched them from across the room.

“They are the most beautiful couple in the world. Look how sweet they are to each other.” Kit said with a sense of pride.

Shane added “Yeah they are just too ***** cute!”

“Too ***** cute”, Alice added – placing special emphasis on the word “*****”. She smiled and just shook her head.
