    ***NEW*** Chapter 34 – Keeping you safe

    Chapter 34

     

    Their journey back from the church had been relatively quiet as they walked back to the cars hand in hand, there wasn’t any need for words…

     

    Bette pulled up in front of the house that she knew held so many memories of, not only the recent events of the past few days, but from all of the years that Lily and Maxy had lived in the house. 

     

    Tina pulled in behind, having to make a separate journey as she had turned up at the church when Bette was already there.

     

    Bette got out of her car and walked to Tina’s open window.

     

    "Are you okay?" Tina asked quietly, "we don’t have to do this now."

     

    "I know, but…, I guess I have to go back in there at some point…"

     

    "Bette…, this last couple of days you have coped with so much alone…"

     

    "I know…" Bette said with a downcast look.

     

    Tina got out of the car and leaned against the closed door, "listen…, today you have been through such a huge emotional event…, everything in Lily’s house will still be there tomorrow.  I can bet that you haven’t eaten properly in days…"

     

    Bette smiled, how well Tina had come to know her in such a short time.

     

    "I thought so…, why don’t we go back to my place, let me make us dinner and just relax together for the evening.  We can come back here in the morning…"

     

    "We?" Bette said with an element of surprise.

     

    "Of course, I’m not going to let you do this on your own…"

     

    "But…"

     

    "No buts…, I want to do this for you and I want to do this for Lily…"

     

    "Thank you T…"

     

    Tina leaned forward and placed a delicate kiss on Bette’s lips, "it’s us now babe…, not just me and you."

     

    "I like the sound of that…"

     

    "I think you should get used to it…" Tina quipped in a low tone, "so, what do you think. My place this evening and then we come back tomorrow?"

     

    Bette looked back at the house, she glanced back at her car where she knew the urn was placed on the back seat.  "I’d like that, but would you mind if I just put the uh…, you know…, the urn…, on the back porch?"

    4. Hey Jo, Wonderful to see your magical and romantic words on my screen again. I adore how you have captured the sense of loss that Bette feels balanced against the depth of Tina’s emotions. Tina is able to admit this to Bette given the extreme fragile state Bette is in. The loss of Lily has brought back such difficult feelings including facing those from her mother’s death. The one bright light in all this depression and desperate is Tina. Tina will be there to comfort and support Bette completely. It may be a kind word, a tender touch, a gentle look, a quiet reflection or just silence. Now Bette has to let go of her defenses and let Tina just be there for her. Wow, you don’t have any idea how much I missed this story and you, reading this chapter was like being in a rollercoaster to me, it made me relive some moments that were as hard as the ones Bette are going through, and as a result a certain heaviness clouded my chest. But I am happy that Bette has someone she can lean on, someone that understands her pain and how meaningful her relationship was with Lily. You are one of a kind my dear Jo, and reading for you really have awaken some deep emotions inside, your words and sentiment always lingers in my heart and mind, I can’t wait for another touching, breath taking chapter, this chapter hit close to home today. Love your description of Bette in Levi’s, now I have finally understood your obsession of Beals/Porter in Levi’s. Post when you can and I hope it is very soon.
