New Chapter – Part 7
The next morning, Tina awoke from a disturbing dream. It was her wedding day, and she was getting ready in the ante room of the church, adjusting her veil and gathering her bouquet in her trembling hands. She heard the organ start up. She knew it was her cue, and she began to glide down the aisle toward Grant. He had his back to her and everyone in the pews kept their faces forward, blank and expressionless. Before she reached the end of the aisle, a mocking, loud laugh cackled from somewhere behind her in the church. She spun around defiantly to see who would dare laugh in this moment, but the church was empty. She turned back around in confusion and Grant was no longer standing there. It was suddenly dark and she looked down at her hands to see her bouquet had been replaced by a gun. The darkness disappeared and orange flames sprung up all around her. She ran back down the aisle to the front door but it was locked. The mocking laughter started up again, louder and louder as the flames closed in…
Tina sat up suddenly, gulping for air, looking around to assure herself that she was safe. She was in her house. It was morning, and she was fine. Tina repeated these things to herself as she tried to get her emotions under control. She watched the clock until ten minutes had passed and it was 7:30. Feeling calmer, she got up, showered and dressed, even though she didn’t have anywhere to go. She was just running a brush through her hair when a crash on her front porch made her yelp. She heard two male voices and froze. She took a step towards the gun but then she heard Grant’s unmistakable voice raised. “Will you let go of me, you idiot?”
Tina rushed to the front of the house and peered out the front window. Grant was lying on her porch with a police officer pinning his hands behind his back. Tina hurriedly unlocked the door.
“What is going on?”
The cop looked up and Tina recognized him as the same one who had driven her home yesterday. “Ma’am step back inside. I saw this guy lurking around outside your house.”
