    After a few minutes, Mr. Ruffles got up off his back legs, wandered over to the bookshelf and thoughtfully removed a few salient volumes. After perusing them silently, his little eyes narrowed and his trunk became rigid. A sure sign he was about to get very feisty indeed.

     

    “Humphrey,” he began, in a very quiet, very strained tone of voice.

     

    “Yes?” ventured Humphrey.

     

    “We have a problem?”

     

    “Is it the Not…”

     

    “It’s not a monster Humphrey!” Mr. Ruffles interrupted crossly. “It’s a thief!”

     

    “Oh no!” exclaimed the gnu.

     

    “There are no apostrophe’s in any of these books!” Declared Mr. Ruffles. “Someone has stolen all the apostrophe’s from this house!”

     

    “Oh no!” Humphrey exclaimed again. He hated to admit that he wasn’t sure of the significance of all of this, but he was a true and loyal friend and if Mr. Ruffles was riled up, then Humphrey was riled up.

     

    Mr. Ruffles was silent for a few more moments before he spoke sagely. “There’s only one thing for it. We’ll have to go find them.”

     

    “Us?” Questioned Humphrey with a squeak. “Won’t it be dangerous??”

     

    “Oh” intoned the little grey elephant solemnly. “It will be perilous. To do this, we have no choice but to travel into… Grammarland.”

     

    “Grammarland!” Humphrey echoed with another squeak. “But… but… how do we get there?”

     

    “There’s a magic portal under the kitchen sink,” said Mr. Ruffles, as though this were common knowledge. “But it will take great courage…”

     

    “Courage…” Humphrey echoed fearfully.

     

    “And wit…”

     

    “Wit…” came the echo, even more fearfully.

     

    “And chocolate!”

     

    “Chocolate?” came the reply, now with some confusion.

     

    “We must have sustenance for our great adventure Humphrey!” Mr. Ruffles admonished.

     

    “Of course,” Humphrey nodded vigorously.

     

    Mr. Ruffles took to the task of organizing them immediately. They fashioned a little pack out of an old purse of Elly’s and fastened it to Humphrey’s back. They made sure it contained all the items they could possibly require: A piece of string, a green crayon, some chocolate (at Mr. Ruffles recommendation), a hand drawn map from Elly’s desk, a gold star, two paper clips, the hat off Mr. Potato and a piece of lego. Humphrey suggested taking a dictionary so they’d know what the apostrophe’s looked like but Mr. Ruffles glared down that suggestion with enough iciness for Humphrey to look chagrined.

    2. hahha aweee, but only a LITTLE spashley? oh well, i love humphrey and mr. ruffles. and it made me so happy to see a new chapter to BFM. like, my heart did a flippy thing. You do this to me!

    3. Holy Hell. I’m pretty sure you’re the only person on the planet capable of making a story about two stuffed animals on an adventure in an alternate reality interesting. And manage to somehow tie in some Spashley lovin’. Haha

    5. clomle….wow. you are simply amazing. thank you for sharing your talent and genious with us. although i do feel like you could have given poor mr. ruffles and humphrey some of those commas you have piled on your desk for their travels. seems like you are being king q and hogging them all! but in all seriousness that was unbelievably great and it gives a mere glimpse into the breadth of your seemingly endless creativity. ok enough out of me…im going to check under the sink for grammerland…someone seems to have stolen all of my capital letters!!

    33. I just started reading…got to the part where Mr. Ruffles is suggesting they journey to Grammarland. I’m not sure I can read more. It is farrrrrr too scarey a journey for me to make. I’m not sure I can do it…don’t make me go there Clomle…why, why oh why have you done this to us…your adoring fan base. UGH…ok…I’ll go back to the story and travel with our heros into Grammerland. BUT I WON’T LIKE IT! Ok, maybe I will…more on that when I finish.
