Don’t Cry Out. – (Chapter: 2. Spinning the web.)

With a sigh, Spencer looked back up at the directory, scanning over it one last time to make sure she hadn’t missed anything. Nothing had changed. It turned out that the map was not, in fact, drawn with magic marker and was hiding some secret to how to get to Chelsea’s display. Bummer.

                “Lost?”

Not expecting someone else’s presence, Spencer jumped. She looked back down at the pamphlet as she turned to face them, nodding. “Yeah. I can’t find, uh…Hall 8E.” she said. She looked up to search the face before her for an answer, hoping that it was some sort of employee.

She couldn’t have been more wrong.

As soon as she saw Ashley’s face, her head spun. Her thoughts swirled around in her head, and, for a brief moment, she drowned in the memory of the events of that fateful night, three months prior. Her vision blurred. Her head reeled. She wondered if she were swaying, considered running. But her feet were rooted to the spot. Fight or flight – except that she wasn’t doing any fightng or fleeing.

“You alright?” Ashley asked, putting her hand on Spencer’s shoulder as if to steady her. The blonde wondered if she were swaying, and blinked a few times to clear her head. Once she’d regained control, she fought to find words.

“Uh…yeah, sorry. Headache.” She lied, grinning sheepishly. The girl before her seemed to buy it, and let her hand drop with a faint smile. “Anyway, uhm…Hall 8E. Do you know where it is?”

Something seemed to click in Ashley’s brain, and she replied, “The Chelsea Lewis exhibit?”

Spencer swallowed. “Uh, yeah. You know her?” She folded and unfolded the pamphlet nervously. Did Ashley even remember that night? Did she sleep with a new girl every night? In her head, the blonde did a few quick calculations. If such were true, Ashley had probably slept with nearly a hundred other girls since Spencer. Nearly a hundred.

The brunette shook her head. “Not really. Friend of a friend. But I do know where the room is." Inwardly, Spencer sighed of relief. Finally, some good news. "Here, I’ll walk you.” …Scratch that.

The other girl held her hands up and shook her head. “Oh, no no no! I can do just fine with directions. You don’t have to walk me.” She grinned sheepishly, hiding her true emotions from the girl behind a mask.

    3. Ohhh, a pun maniac. My friend Jeff is quite possibly the master, dropping “Accordion to you…” “In a manor of speaking…” and “Just for the halibut…” into conversations with the greatest of ease. I love your inclusion of inanimate objects and their thoughts and actions. The beginning of the fic made me feel bad for my desk drawers, so I opened and shuffled through them guiltily this morning. Is that weird? Don’t answer that….

    5. Aw…That’s so sad how Spencer had to lie because she didn’t want Ashley to know who she really was. *Sniffle* I think it will come back and bite her in the butt later. That sucks but is to be expected…Unless I’m wrong. Did I guess wrong? Will all end well for Spencer/Emily? Plus, you are the Punniest person I know. =) Lol.

    7. I agree with Bannerman and NotTwinny. But, I really like this story. I wonder if Ashley reconizes Spencer but isn’t saying anything. Poor Spencer;( I just wanted to hug her. I like this version of Ash cause its true to chracter. Ash just never treated spencer this way (on the show). She deserves some payback though. Then some love but, payback first.

    9. If I was in that scenario I think I’d take pleasure in informing Ash that she’d fucked me, ditched me, and then flirted with me again cos she’d forgotten who I was – make her as uncomfortable as I’d have felt. Either that or I’d have told her my name and if she said she knew where she remembered me from I’m deny all knowlegde, make her think she was a forgettable shag! She deserves it! But Spencer is obviously not particularly confrontational, which is a shame! I look forward to Ash eventually discovering the truth! write more cos I’m loving it already. Jx
