    Ashley we have to talk.

               

     

     

     

     

    “Hey! Reading isn’t that bad,” Spencer protested flicking Ashley on the elbow.

               

     

     

     

     

     

    “Well I mean I like newspapers, especially pulling over to read them on the side of the road,” Ashley joked. Spencer’s cheeks flushed a dark red and she looked down at her shoes.  “Did your mom ever see that article?”

               

     

     

     

     

     

    “No actually, she didn’t ever see it. I did find out who tipped the reporters though,” Spencer stated looking out the window and finally turning her bright blue eyes on Ashley.

               

     

     

     

     

    “Who?”

               

     

     

     

     

    “Kristen, she thought it would be exceptionally funny for my mom to find out about us the weekend we went to my house,” Spencer stood up and pushed her hands into her back pockets. At least some things were still the same, Spencer still had the exact same fashion sense, and other than her hair and skin everything about her seemed to be unchanged.

               

     

     

     

     

    “I’ll kill her.” Ashley growled. Spencer rolled her eyes and laughed.

               

     

     

     

    “It’s not like it even matters anymore, you know? It was so long ago.” Ashley stopped smiling. To her it had only been a few days ago but the passage of time had taken its toll. She’d missed out on two years.

               

     

     

     

     

    “I moved off campus, so that Keely could have a yard to play in about six months after your accident. And right after it happened, I um had the pleasure of meeting your mother,” Spencer added softly.

               

     

     

     

     

    “What?” Ashley said shocked.

               

     

     

     

     

     

    “Yeah, it was memorable,” Spencer said bitterly.

               

     

     

     

     

     

    “What happened?” Ashley asked. She was curious as to the fact of why her mother would even be there to begin with. Ashley had thought that even if she died, her Mom would never have really cared. She was always too busy with flights to offshore islands and chemical peels to strip the age off of her already taut face.
