    Face Down – (Chapter: 11)

“I can’t help it,” I said. “It just comes out when I’m around you.”

“I love you,” she said. I felt her shiver a little.

                “Are you cold?” I asked.

                “A little,” she said.

“Do you want a blanket?” I asked.

                “No,” she said, “it’s ok.”

“I’ll get one anyway,” I said. “I’ll be right back.”

“Ok,” she said. “I’ll be here.”

I kissed her forehead and got up. I walked inside and said hi to Kyla. I looked in the closet for a blanket. “Where are you?” I asked myself.

                “ASHLEY!” Spencer screamed.

I dropped the blanket and bolted to the back door. I ran outside with Kyla a few feet behind. I saw someone carrying Spencer over their shoulder. They were running towards a car. I ran after them. They threw Spencer in the back and drove off. I ran after the car. I chased it as far as I could. I stopped and fell to the ground when the car was out of sight. Kyla came up next to me.

                “What happened?” Kyla asked.

“I don’t fucking know,” I snapped. I was sobbing. “Someone fucking took her. She’s gone. They fucking took her, Ky.”

“I’m so sorry,” Kyla said. She knelt down and wrapped her arms around me. I sobbed into her shoulder for a few minutes.

“I have to go,” I said. I pulled away from Kyla and stood up.

“Where are you going?” Kyla asked.

“I have to talk to Spencer’s parents,” I said. I took off and ran back the few blocks to the house. I grabbed my purse, keys, and phone. I got in my car and sped to the Carlin house. I pulled into the driveway and ran up to the front door. I banged on the door until someone opened.

“What are you doing here?” Paula asked.

“Where is Mr. C?” I asked. “I need to talk to him. It’s really important.”

                “Arthur,” Paula said, “door.”

Arthur walked to the door. “Ashley?” he said. “What’s wrong? Do you know what time it is?”

“I know it’s late sir,” I said, starting to cry, “but something happened.”
