    Face Down – (Chapter: 16)

“How’s Spence?” Kyla asked when I got in the car.

“She’s good,” I said. “She gets to come home tomorrow.”

                “That’s awesome,” she said.

                “Yeah,” I said. “I can’t wait.”

“Is she still living with us?” she asked.

“As far as I know,” I said. “Her mom is still bitchy.”

“Good,” she said. “I like Spencer being around.”

                “Me too,” I smiled.

“I would hope so,” she said.

Kyla pulled into the driveway and we went inside. I took a shower then found Kyla.

“I need to talk,” I said.

                “Ok,” she said. “Talk.”

“I think Spence is mad at me,” I said.

                “Why?” she asked.

“I asked her to go to counseling once she gets out of the hospital,” I said.

“What did she say?” she asked.

“She asked why,” I said. “I told her that I just wanted to make sure she was ok and I didn’t want this to burden her for the rest of her life.”

“Is she going to go?” she asked.

“I don’t know,” I said. “She said she’d think about it. Am I being unreasonable?”

“No,” she said, “not at all. I would have said the same thing.”

“Her dad talked to me,” I said, “and told me that I would be the one she would listen to so I needed to convince her to go.”

“He does have a point,” she said. “She listens to you more than anyone.”

“I know,” I said. “But I don’t think she’s going to listen to me this time.”

“I know this probably isn’t what you want to hear,” she said, “but we’ll probably just have to wait it out and see what she does.”

“You’re right,” I said. “I just don’t want her to hurt anymore. She’s been through so much. She deserves to be happy.”

“Being with you makes her happy,” she said.

“Thanks for the talk Ky,” I said. “I need to get some sleep though. I haven’t gotten much sleep the past two weeks and apparently I have school tomorrow.”

“Ok,” she smiled. “If you need anything, you know where I am.”
