Finally On the Ground – (Chapter: La Tempeste)

She could hear her mother singing in the kitchen and for a moment, the sheer prettiness of it washed over her. Spencer closed her eyes and let the sweet tune of her youth melt through her ears and warm her heart. Then she grinned and shuffled into the kitchen.

    “You haven’t sung in ages!”

“Oh god Spencer you scared me!” Paula jumped, turning around and putting a hand over her heart dramatically.

Spencer picked up an apple and frowned with a smile. “Sorry mom, just sayin’ hi.”

    “You’re home early!”

“Mmm, clinic finished really early. I had a walk in the bazaar and then came home” Spencer took a bite of the apple, letting the juice slide down over her chin and feeling just that little bit decadent.

“Really Spencer, I don’t know what you see in that place, it’s a den of sin.”

Spencer snorted. If the bazaar was a den of sin, Spencer hated to think what her mother thought of the rest of the planet. Spencer was a doctor, and knew enough about some of the less savoury conditions that people turned up to the clinic with. Yes, sin was alive and well on Orlandio, but comparative to the rest of the planet, HA!

“Mom, I was looking at bags and shirts… how is that sin?”

“Oh not that” Paula scoffed, folding the tea towel she was wielding and putting it back on the hook. “Just… all the other things that go on there.”

“Yes, those chicken sellers are a hot bed of deviance” Spencer mocked.

“Spencer don’t talk to your mother like that,” Ben’s casual remark as he walked passed the door annoyed the young blonde. Damn he was home.

    “Where’s Clay?” Spencer asked.

“He’ll be home soon,” Paula replied. “Really I wish you wouldn’t frequent such places. Anyway, how was last night?”

Spencer pretended not to know what her mother was referring to. “Huh?”

“Oh don’t be coy, how was your date with Thom? Such a gentleman.” Spencer nearly rolled her eyes. Geez, she knew her mother liked Thom, but if she liked him that much why didn’t SHE date him.

    2. Hey, I’m definitely liking it. Sure, the space thing made me apprehensive at first, but if it’s a story from you, I know I’ll love it. I mean, I adored “Best For Me”, although at first I thought I’d dislike it, what with Spencer being a mom and all. (Still have no idea what “Firefly” is, though!)

    3. Well I definitly like all your other writing .. and though I couldn’t really get into this in the beginning it’s definitly growing on me. Can’t wait to read more :)
