    Late night in the office… yes another one

    I waited patiently, as she crammed the crisp new sheets of paper into another folder and carefully placed the original back onto Aiden’s desk.  She was just letting herself into Julian’s office when I flicked the her desk light on, casting me in a spotlight.

    “Hello Carrie,” I said expressionlessly, a smirk making itself apparent on my face as she swore and dropped the file onto the floor in shock.  She quickly bent to retrieve it as I continued.  “Mind if I ask what the hell you’re doing?”

    She studied me for a second, gaining her composure and responding in a calm tone:  “It’s nothing – I’m just doing Spence a favour.”

    I ignored the pang of jealousy I felt in my chest at her use of Spencer’s nickname, just as I had the day I’d heard Anna use it when I’d visited their accommodation – their home… together.

    “Bullshit – I just watched her leave,” I said calmly, remaining in my seat.  I didn’t want to appear threatening, as I wanted to keep her talking, and if she bolted it’d ruin the plan that was quickly forming in my head.

    “So what?” she challenged.

    “So, I demand to know what you’re doing,” I continued.

    “And I demand you back off – or I’ll tell Spencer you’re in on the bet,” she threatened, panic rising in her voice.  I had to hide the fear her statement caused to rise in me, and so I responded in the most measured tone I could manage.

    “You wouldn’t.”

    “Wouldn’t I?!”  she quickly retaliated, her voice bitter, a smirk forming on her full lips.

    “No, because it’d land you in it too,” I stated simply.  “She’d wonder why you didn’t tell her straight away, and so would no longer trust you.  She’d also probably put two and two together and realise you were only being nice to her in the first place cos you’re in on the bet too.”

    “Like she’d figure that out!” she scoffed.  “Do you even know her? she doesn’t think like that – she thinks we’re friends.”

    What a bitch! I knew she was using her all along.  My heart suddenly broke for Spencer, knowing that she’d trusted someone who was just going to rip her to shreds.  Then I cottoned on to the irony – she was being treated just like Spencer had treated me.  I’d have said she deserved it, if I truly believed that she did.

    2. Erm…crap. That sounded like one of those “perfect plans” that always end up backfiring. So I predict: Spencer finds out somehow, there’s a ton of drama like always, then there’s some forgiving going on even though spencer won’t want to, annd then they’ll end up together. But that’s just how things always go. Maybe you’ll come up with something more interesting.

    6. Oh thank goodness Carrie doesn’t have a brain. I just hope that she doesn’t somehow magically grow one…the “ah well” she sighed out at end sounded slightly ominous. Maybe I’m just being paranoid? Either way, loved the post.
