    Late night in the office… yes another one

    “Do that and never get a job in the ad world again,” I surmised.  “You know how much power the guys here have in the industry, and it wouldn’t half piss them off knowing you’re the reason this bet went tits up… and every bet still to come.”

    I knew I was skating on thin ice.  If Carrie had any brains she’d know that something like PNG could ruin DJC if it got into the press.  The media would rip us to shreds and there would no doubt be several court cases as a result of the fact that ethically, PNG was appalling.  I wondered how many cases it would open up – how many girls would come forward after figuring out that they, too, had been subject to the little bet Aiden had had going on for God knows how long.  But she wasn’t that clever.  I saw her falter, realising that she was bluffing about being so ‘sure’ about how I felt for Spencer.  She didn’t have a leg to stand on and she knew it.  Of course, I was bluffing too… but I was better.  She had nothing on me, which meant she had no power over me whatsoever: if she wasn’t sure where I stood with Spencer, then how was it worth losing her job, and any chance of a future career, over telling Spencer something that may not have any detrimental effect on me at all?

    It wasn’t worth it, and I was spurred on by it all becoming so clear to me.   My plan suddenly took its final turn, and I inwardly beamed at how well I would get away with it.   Carrie didn’t have a clue that telling Spencer the truth about my involvement in the bet would completely ruin me, and our ‘relationship’, and she never would.

    “Tell you what, Carrie,” I began, trying to sound as kind as possible, almost as if I was about to let her off the hook.  “I’ll keep quiet over this little ‘lapse’ in your fidelity to DJC… if you quit.”

    “What!?” she cried.

    “You heard,” I exclaimed.  “Cut all your ties with DJC, and preserve your future in advertising.  Stay; and I’ll make sure you have no future at all… anywhere.”

    2. Erm…crap. That sounded like one of those “perfect plans” that always end up backfiring. So I predict: Spencer finds out somehow, there’s a ton of drama like always, then there’s some forgiving going on even though spencer won’t want to, annd then they’ll end up together. But that’s just how things always go. Maybe you’ll come up with something more interesting.
