Bette’s House – Tina
As I drift up from my dream I hear the co-mingling of familiar sounds from my past: The garden fountain’s pattering and splashing in the distance, the soft whirr of the pool pump as it kicks on, and Bette’s strong, steady breath as she sleeps next to me. The last thing I want to do is go to work today.
I disable my 6:15 alarm and push the creeping thoughts of Jenny’s revealing new script rewrites and the romantic calamities of Bev and Nina from my mind. Dissuaded they circle me unhurried from dismissal.
Bette stirs sleepily then wraps me in her arms. I wonder if she knows she’s holding me?
”How’d you sleep? I’m so glad you’re here, T.”
I sigh and feel like a fool. ”The five hours I had were fine but before that was …” I stop as Bette’s eyes fly open.
”I’m listening.” She sweeps my hair back and watches me intently.
”Baby, I’ve missed you. There’s no other lover like you anywhere in the world. I’d bet millions on it.” I smile as she begins to laugh softly with me.
”You know everything about me, don’t you?” Bette asks.
”Hardly, you’re very complicated.” I caress her face and slowly we kiss our good morning.
”You know what? I’m not really. I have basic things that I firmly believe and when challenged that’s when I get complicated.”
”Predictably so and I love you.” I find her kiss again and feel a little ache rising up inside me.
”I love you, and I’m so glad you’re home. I believe I’ve had my last nightmare, Tina.”
I feel the sheet travel down my body as the feelings of her mouth and hands spread over me. My eyes surprise me as they fill unexpectedly at their corners with tears. Soon, we come in slow waves together and she touches my tears as they fall.
”Baby, I know just how you feel.” She kisses me and we hold each other until the clock forces us apart.
As I walk down the hallway focused now on coffee and Angelica in that order I pick up the clothing Bette and I shed from the front door straight into the bedroom last night. I realize there’s no way with Jenny next door I’m leaving here in the cocktail dress I wore to the SheBar.

Thank goodness that you’ve returned!!! I thought you were in the Witness Protection Program yourself.Hope all is well w/you. Glad that you made Bette and Jodie’s denouement rapid. On the show it was so ridiculously long that it made no sense. It has taken a odd turn. I am curious to read what you do with the upcoming chapters. So happy that you’ve returned. :-)

Every time I think some thing is going to happen, it’ll shift and once I think I’ve figured out the plot, it’s going to shift again. Nobody writes like you.

Glad to see you back and I agree with the comments given. You should have been a writer for the show!!! I loved the ending with Jodi, so funny. Also was so unique the way you introduced her mom with a Native woman. So appropriate! You’ve done another incredible story for the women and I’m sure they love you for it! Can’t wait to see what comes next!

as Bette broke up with Jodie was really amazing, the highlight of the whole thing (as if you wrote it just for me) – good, I know not :P
Jodie at least hadn’t a chance to humiliate to Bette. Bette endured much at the beginning of their relationship.
