I knot the sash of Bette’s blue silk robe and start the morning coffee. As it gurgles I slice peaches and rinse a bowl of blueberries for our breakfast. Then I open the French doors to the garden and smell the sweet scents of morning before the day’s smog begins.
I pad in my bare feet down the hallway and into Angelica’s room where the familiarity of a routine I’ve not had with my family for years begins to feel like a dream.
”Tina, did you see the ripe peaches from the farmer’s market?” I hear Bette call after her shower cuts off.
I realize as I lean over and kiss our child awake – I may be having the perfect morning.
Bette walks into the kitchen wearing her blue pin striped power suit and pours her coffee.
”Tina, I want you to move back home tonight. Will you come back home right now?” She fixes me with an intensity across the breakfast table.
”I have an unreal day ahead of me with Lez Girls but I’ll come over later with a big suitcase. How’s that?”
”How about two big suitcases? I’ll carry both of them inside.” She challenges me and smiles as Angelica pops blueberry after blueberry into her mouth and grins back.
”Bette, what makes you think that Jodie won’t come over here and that you can just invite me back to live here while you’re in a relationship with her?”
”It’s my house the last time I checked and I intend to be very cold when I break up with her later.” She says as she begins to eat her peaches. ”I’m aiming for sub-zero.”
”And your inflammatory nature?”
She begins to laugh. ”There are very complicated emotional thermodynamics involved in all this, Tina, I realize that. But here’s the best I can do to explain it to you.”
She points her finger at me and says, ”You are ”hot” feelings for me.” Then she makes a quick slice across her throat, ”She equals ”cold” feelings for me.” And she ends with a mouthful of fruit.
”I’ve seen you be cold before, Bette.” I shake my head and cut smaller bites of peaches for Angie.
”No, you haven’t. You’ve seen me steely, but trust me I’ve never felt this way before.”

Thank goodness that you’ve returned!!! I thought you were in the Witness Protection Program yourself.Hope all is well w/you. Glad that you made Bette and Jodie’s denouement rapid. On the show it was so ridiculously long that it made no sense. It has taken a odd turn. I am curious to read what you do with the upcoming chapters. So happy that you’ve returned. :-)

Every time I think some thing is going to happen, it’ll shift and once I think I’ve figured out the plot, it’s going to shift again. Nobody writes like you.

Glad to see you back and I agree with the comments given. You should have been a writer for the show!!! I loved the ending with Jodi, so funny. Also was so unique the way you introduced her mom with a Native woman. So appropriate! You’ve done another incredible story for the women and I’m sure they love you for it! Can’t wait to see what comes next!

as Bette broke up with Jodie was really amazing, the highlight of the whole thing (as if you wrote it just for me) – good, I know not :P
Jodie at least hadn’t a chance to humiliate to Bette. Bette endured much at the beginning of their relationship.
