Chapter 1 – September
Friday morning, Bette and Tina got up and went downstair and immediately started to prepare breakfast. Daniel and his friend John David Wilkins and a house guest would be present for breakfast. Bette and Tina had an appointment with their investment advisors and estate planners this morning. They had arranged for John David to come over and have an early morning swim, have breakfast, shower and dress for school. Bette and Tina would drop the boys off at school on the way to their appointment.
Margaret Miller is the principal of Whittington Elementary School. She is the house guest of the Kennard-Porter family and has been since midweek. On Wednesday, Margaret was notified that her house was on fire and her sister had been taken to the hospital only to be pronounced dead. Daniel upon hearing Mrs. Miller in distress called his Mama B to come and help. Bette and Tina upon hearing of the tragedy, invited Margaret to their house as a guest until she made other arrangements. Based on the fact that her home was a total loss, the arrangements of being a house guest was open ended.
John David arrived and Daniel put his back pack and school clothes for the day in his room. They then went down to the pool and jumped in. They swam about 30 minutes and then came in and headed for Daniel’s room where they showered and dressed for school. Bette and Tina put the breakfast on the table and proceeded to eat. They then went and prepared for their appointment. Margaret came to breakfast about the time that the family were ready to leave. Margaret told them to not worry about her, that she had things to do while the family was out.
After dropping off the boys, Bette and Tina went on to meet with Geri Walsh, a partner of Aspirant, LLC. She had assembled a team to start to work with Bette and Tina to manage their assets and to assist them to achieve their goal. Bette and Tina joking announced their goals were rather simple: Maximize value and minimize taxes. Geri laughed and told them that before the end of the meeting, a few more specifics would be needed.
