    Some Christmas – Part 4

    Chapter 9

    Tina? Tina.”

Tina blinked and looked around the table in the conference room at four expectant faces looking back.

    I’m sorry, what?”

Joel smiled at her from across the table and Tina dropped her eyes to the papers in front of her.

It’s nothing. We were just wondering if you had anything else to add before the end of the meeting. Any final instructions.”

Tina glanced at the faces of her team. They all looked as tired as she felt.

No instructions. Except for all of you to catch up on your sleep and take it easy for the next few days. I know some of you cant wait to get some time off. Thanks for all your hard work getting this project together over the past few months. I’m very pleased that we will start the new year with what will hopefully be an easier way forward. I trust that your holiday bonuses will more than express the depth of my gratitude. That’s all.”

The meeting broke up and Tina gathered her papers and folders and made her way back to her office, shutting the door in relief. She felt like collapsing in her chair and kicking off her shoes. She was thrilled to finally have everything finished and in order. It should be smooth sailing from here on out. As draining as her job could be, she felt intense satisfaction because she knew she was good at it. What was more rewarding than that?

She sat down in her chair and picked up her old-fashioned planner – she still liked writing things down – and skimmed her to-do list for today. Everything, for once, was done. She had nothing big looming over her head that needed her attention.

Tina closed her planner and looked at the framed photo of herself, Bette, and Angie on her desk. She and Bette had stopped fighting, at least. They were awkwardly polite to each other in private, and almost warm when they were with Angelica, but they both knew that they needed to have a serious talk. Tina didn’t really want to say anything, though, for fear of rocking the boat, ruining the truce, and starting the arguments all over again. The whole thing was absurd. Tina was closer to Bette than anyone else in the world. How had it come to this point, where she couldn’t even talk to her? Tina sighed just as there was a knock on her door.

    1. Just the best, as always. I enjoyed this one. So glad that there was no inkling that Tina was cheating on Bette, I was a little worried there for a minute. Love the ending-as they say, some of the best gifts can not be wrapped and placed under the tree. Thank You.
