#TLW10 – I Think They’ll Think We’re Boring
Tina and Bette lie side by side in bed, both on their backs. They are both awake, and have been for a while. The early Saturday morning traffic can be heard whizzing by outside.
The mood is lazy and relaxed as they talk about going to Kit’s video shoot later in the day and Bette tells Tina about Slim Daddy’s unabashed flirting with her even after she had broken the news to him that she was gay. The blonde laughs, knowing that her head-turning wife probably flirted right back despite her proclamation to him. It was part of her woman’s charm.
Tina is resting the back of her head on her right arm occasionally closing her eyes and enjoying the weekend peacefulness. Bette wants to talk about yesterday morning since she hung out with Kit after work and didn’t get home until Tina was already asleep. Bette knew Tina was on an early-to-bed regimen so that she could get more sleep than usual for the baby’s sake, and to cash in on the sleep while it was still in abundance. There was no reason to rouse Tina last night to continue the discussion they were interrupted from having when the delivery men showed up with the birthing tank. But it had been eating at Bette for almost 24 hours and she was ready to address the issue in her typical passive-aggressive fashion.
“So what did you do with the birthing tank?” she asks as she stares up at the ceiling.
“It’s in the baby’s room.” Tina replies, suddenly tensing. She knew that they would need to talk about it eventually and now seemed as good a time as any. “Are you mad that I made a decision?” The mother-to-be probes without facing her partner, in the hopes that group therapy has given them the primer they need to start communicating again.
The question causes Bette to glance at her wife and then look away when she realizes there won’t be any eye contact. “No.” Bette struggles to reveal her vulnerability. She begins to speak again with a shrug, a heavy sigh and a shake of her head. “I just – I just feel a little left out.” She glances at her a couple more times but Tina’s gaze remains transfixed above.
