LR: It is incredible, though I wouldn’t dismiss your fans because some of them are art connoisseurs as well.
LH: Forever I will be grateful for the fans. I started all this with charity and we are still connected to Emergency right now. It was amazing at my opening. Gino Strada, who is the founder of Emergency, was there. Everybody there from Venezia and the publicist, they just loved, loved the show. It was a very heartfelt show. I just got tons of support and we are still supporting Emergency, and we will in Berlin. It was a couple of years ago when my sponsorship started and someone said to me, “With art, finance and charity we can change the lives of people. And we can change your life.” If I wanted to make this change and it’s just amazing to be believed in like that. And these are people that had nothing to do with the show. It was all because of the art.
I don’t paint to please anyone. I don’t care if anyone doesn’t like it. I’m painting to release whatever’s going on with me that day or that week. To act you got to wait until you go on set and now I don’t have to wait for anything. I turn the key to my door in my studio and it’s like a magical forest. I was always jealous of artists, musicians and writers, people who got their own schedule. That really is all what I wanted to do. I want to have my own schedule and I want to be creative on my own time. I realized that I was like a closet painter all the six months during the hiatus of the show and I was having more fun on the hiatus than I was on the show. Don’t get me wrong, I loved shooting the show. I loved both during those six years. I think something just really clicked over and I didn’t feel happy unless there was a brush in my hand. It was very calming.
LR: I believe that everything happens for a reason. How many people can say that they wake up in the morning and they are excited to start working?
LH: Well, sometimes I don’t want to paint (laughing).
LR: The good thing about it is that you have your own schedule and if you want, you can take a day off and spend it with your kids, and then paint the rest of the week.
LH: Yes, I’m lucky. I know I’m really lucky.
LR: Miki’s book is not out yet so what was your answer to her question?
LH: You have to get the book to find out. Buy the book (laughing). It has something to do with “The L Word.” There was a very profound moment when I was on the show. The fans should buy Miki’s book because it’s a great celebration of women.
LR: And Miki’s an amazing photographer.
LH: She captures the soul of people. I’m not proud of the book just because she’s my friend. She’s talented.
LR: She doesn’t show them all glamorous. Her photos show that those women are just beautiful as they are, and you don’t have to make them look beautiful like a lot of magazines do.
LH: Yes, I’m really proud of her.
Check Laurel Holloman website for her art work and prints of her paintings that are available for sale. Miki Turner book is available on amazon.com by the end of November.

Thank you for that in-depth interview. I love to go into the minds of creators (artists and others) and discover a whole new world. I love creativity and what makes people tick. I love the conversations of the why’s and wherefore’s, the thoughts and actions behind each piece. I have discovered that we’re all artists, we all just used different mediums. I love the conversations so thank you for this wonderful article.

Does Ms Holloman have a studio or gallery in the Los Angeles area that is open to the public?

I watch Laurels painting videos all the time on YouTube, and she just incredible and very very talented. Everytime I see her finish work I’m just in awe and sit staring with tears in my eyes because they really touch my heart and I feel like every painting has its on meaning but yet they all are very connected. My dream as a fan of hers is to one day be able to attend one of her shows, I probably will pass out for overexcitment…is that a word??? Lol

So agree with you. I love Laurel’s paintings and that has nothing to do with loving her as an Actress.
I was hoping to get to Paris this year but failed I just hope she gets another showing soon which I do make.
I do wish she could find a way to do some acting as well as painting – perhaps she will in time.
