It was just before eleven a.m. when Tina pulled into the driveway of a large Victorian villa in Golden Hill, San Diego. She sat for a moment just listening to the hum of the electric motor then switched the car off. Sweat cooled on the back of her neck. Navigating an unfamiliar city was usually something she found exciting, but not right now.

She looked around. The neighbourhood was beautiful. Wide-spaced detached homes with mature gardens and vivid green lawns. She wondered distractedly at the water-use regulations, then reached over for her bag and took out a compact.

Her eyes looked tired. She’d flown in to LAX the night before specifically so that all she had to do was drive a couple of hours down this morning, but then barely slept anyway. Like most nights since she’d opened that package from Bette.

A tightness gripped Tina’s chest as she felt herself once more standing in the doorway of her living room, reading Bette’s note. Holding her wedding ring in her hand. That ring was now in Tina’s wallet. She’d left the note in Toronto, but took the ring with her.

A memory of Carrie’s distraught face crowded into Tina’s head, making her close her eyes and breathe slowly to try and calm herself. She had been taking Xanax almost every day for some reason or another, but she hadn’t taken any yet today. That’s good, you did good, she said to herself, folding her hands on the steering wheel and then laying her head down for a moment.

‘Was any of this real to you?’

Tina had been watching Carrie storm around their bedroom throwing things into an overnight bag. She’d just told her she didn’t think she could go ahead with the wedding.

    1. Thank you for the new updates!

Bye, Carrie, we will not miss you. Good for Tina what she decided to talk about that she was raped by her sister, by for me this interrogation never where cannon, so i not going to more talk about that.

By the way – i’m not watching Gen Q besides parts with Bette and Tina, and briefly Bette, when she mention Tina, so when Shane from aunt became uncle?)

    2. Hi Largo, hope you’re feeling better!
I actually felt a little bad for Carrie, people should learn not to get involved with either Bette ot Tina… Still, happy to see her go ;-)
I remember being worried when I first read this that Bette and Dani were gonna start something with this trip, I’m so happy you didn’t go this route. There’s anough drama between Bette and Tina without adding anyone else to the mix.
I just love the way you describe things, characters and spaces, it really help me get into the story. I especially felt it here with Wendy and her office.
On to the other half of this chapter

      • Hi Noa – I am feeling a bit better. Very kind of you to ask. :-)

I’m glad you enjoyed the descriptions of Wendy’s office. I enjoy daydreaming about things like that. And yes, Carrie had a very rough ride with Tina. I felt bad doing that to her but at least there wasn’t any cheating a la Jodie.

        Thank you for commenting x

    3. Finally, Tina getting some proper therapy!
Most of TiBette’s mistakes would’ve been prevented if they just committed to some good long-term therapy. Emphasis on long-term and not something they stop after a few sessions when things get good or bad again.

Look, I’ll admit here that although I’m a TiBetter, I do ship Dani/Bette I haven’t found any actual fics that properly explore what a relationship between them would have looked like, but I can’t help but think it would have been good. I thought in S1 of GQ the writers were setting up SOMETHING between them, but obviously they chickened out of it. I really liked their dynamic, I thought they worked very well together, their similarities AND their differences were very compatible, in a strange way. I think a relationship between them would have been a very interesting one to explore – not necessarily an endgame forever relationship, but I think it would have been good for both of them. They both obviously cared for and protected each other, Dani took care of Bette, and managed and negated a lot of stress for her (which is something Bette really needs, despite her controlling/Alpha tendencies, sometimes she just needs to be taken care of and have someone to lean on), while Dani benefitted from and needed Bette’s mentorship/advice/drive/passion, without being made to feel inferior or incapable in any way.
I’m looking forward to their trip :)

      • Haha, yes! Danette had potential, didn’t they?? Some people felt it was icky bc of the age difference, but if they’re both okay with it then it’s really no one else’s business, is it? In the end I didn’t feel it was right bc I wanted Bette to try and do something different, to make an effort to heal from Tina’s desertion. I love what you say about how they protected one another. I loved that too.
