    Forged in Fire: Chapter 19

One of the great benefits of being raised by Melvin Porter was the ability to summon a spine-tingling sense of authority that beckoned those around you to bow to your will. And it was with this authority that Bette walked into the studio offices at Chaikentown and requested an audience with Davis Shah. The secretary was young, pretty, and thin and she wilted easily under Bette’s intense gaze. She called Davis on his cell phone to let him know he had a visitor.

Davis had been arrogant and disinterested. He told his secretary to have Bette make an appointment and then he hung up the phone.

There was real fear in the secretary’s brown eyes when she looked up at Bette after her boss had hung up the phone on her. “He says you’ll need to make an appointment,” she said softly.

Bette’s smile was pitying. “Where is he?” she asked.

The secretary swallowed over the lump in her throat. “He…He should be on the studio lot. There are two films shooting today. He should be on either set or in his trailer.”

“Thank you. What was your name?” asked Bette.

    “Stephanie.”

“Thank you, Stephanie. Let’s go,” said Bette.

“Where…where are we going?” asked Stephanie.

“I need to speak with Mr. Shah very urgently. This cannot wait. I’d appreciate it if you could take me to see him,” Bette replied.

“But…but he said for you to make an appointment. I really need this job. He’ll be really pissed at me.”

Bette huffed, annoyed at the time it was taking to get this one man. “Then just show me the way. I promise to tell him you showed me the door and kicked me the hell out of here. Deal?”

    Stephanie nodded. “Deal.”

And then Bette stalked toward the door in her stilettos and held it open until Stephanie came scurrying by her. When at last they saw Davis Shah’s thick, jet black hair from a distance, Stephanie hurried back to her office.

Bette walked across the lot, watching the atmosphere around her. Davis was sitting in a director’s chair, looking at his phone. It appeared there was a break in filming.

She strode up to him and said, “Davis Shah, it’s a pleasure to see you again.”

    1. Is this real? Or is Bette going to awaken from some kind of dream? Well, if Melvin has had a change of heart, then it will be evident by his change in behavior.

Bette’s show down with Davis may not have changed his behavior. But it did accomplish that which she wanted accomplished. Davis was never going to fire Tina because she is so necessary to completion of this project. He was nothing but a bully. She could have made him sweat by not showing up or by sending a text saying good luck, you’re on your own.

Thank you for this chapter…..your characters continue to surprise me. Love this story.

      • Sometimes growth is slow. We sometimes have an image of the person we want to be, but we keep stumbling over ourselves in trying to get there. That’s the way I am writing Melvin. I don’t at all think that this was the same Melvin on the show. Lord knows i love Ossie Davis (May he RIP) but Melvin Porter was an entitled, elitist, homophobic ass. Bette deserved better. She needed more than he could provide…emotionally.

This fic will give her back some of what she never had in the actual show.

    2. Thank you very much for the back to back chapters. A lot of good content was established in both chapters.
I think the talk with her father will really help her mentally going forward.

Thank you for the consistently posting.

    3. Thank you for the chapter!

But I agree about Davis – maybe in long perspective Bette’s interference wouldn’t be the best decision. Maybe Tina needs to search another job now, than her long hours and demanding graphics will be much worse.

    4. Wow 2 how do you find the time.. last I looked your hands were full????. So PMing is all it takes to turn your head. .. lol.

Geez you really are trying to give Bette her whole life back. Thank you for the new chapters.. now the next one BnT get naked right?.????????.

I’m sure you have some research lying around somewhere on how to make that happen.. If need be go to index of your medical book and look up girlfriend pantyless, how to treat. ????

    5. Wow, a MTS-double-TnB! Excellent choice for today’s special on the menu. Love it. Thanks for the great May 7th treat.

Best quote: “Who’s your metal worker?” Can’t get better than the picture you put in my head with that …lmao

I’m not so sure what to make of Melvin. I don’t want to like him that’s why I think he’s going to fall back to his old ways along the way. Speaking of Melvin I have to think of Janice. And Patricia. She did know of her keeping an eye on Bette, right? For how long though? Did she try to convince Janice to talk to Bette earlier? It’s irrelevant but my mind is wandering through your plot once again. Love to do that.

What can I do to get one more chapter out of your beautiful writer’s mind this week?

      cheers
      kp

      • Hey Kiwi!! Same note to you as to Martha. Good questions about Patricia and Janice and who knew what when. I love it when your mind wanders through a plot! LOL….sometimes that lets me know where the holes are.
