It was 11:55 and Ashley was laying on her  bed with her laptop on her knees. She was tired and kind of sad. Her birthday didn’t even started yet, but she knew that they will be the worst birthday ever. She closed the monitor and glanced at her nightstand.

‘One more minute’ She thought ‘One more minute and I’ll be 19’

Suddenly her phone buzzed. Ashley checked caller ID and her face lit up.

Spencer.

It didn’t matter how upset brunette was. As long as Spencer was somewhere near she was always smiling.

“Hey Spence. What’s up?” she asked

“Hay Ash. I just wanted to call and wish you happy birthday. What is it that you want in your first minute as a 19 year old?” Spencer asked happily

“You know that there is just one thing that I want. And that is for my best friend to be here with me today.” Ashley sighed

“Ash you know that I want it too. But my parents won’t let me skip that family reunion. We haven’t seen my grandparents in 7 months. “ Spencer said with sadness in her voice.

“I know, I know.” Ashley replied with annoyance dripping from her words. “I just don’t understand why you have to be there for the whole week. I haven’t seen you in like what? Four days? I miss you and I want to spend this day with you.”

“Ash please don’t be mad. I promise I’ll make it up to you as soon as I’ll be back in LA. Shoot. I need to go now. Happy Birthday once again. Bye.” And with that she hanged up.

“Bye” Ashley said to her empty room after a minute. “I love you Spence…”

Loud beeping woke her up the next morning. Brunette turned her alarm off and stared at the ceiling. “Fuck. I hate my birthday.” She said threw clenched  teeth. It  was unfortunately true since her father died. They used to spend this day together every year no matter where Rafie Davis was with his band or what he was doing at the time. He always was throwing everything away to spend this day with his daughter. Ashley missed him every single day but that was always worse at her birthday. However this particular year was going to be even less pleasant for the girl. Spencer – her best friend on who Ashley had a crush since first day they met – was away, her mother Christine was throwing her a party to charm her new boy toy, and her sister Kyla – the only person that could at least partly save the day – was on holidays with her boyfriend Aiden in Florida. After what seemed like eternity Ashley came back to her empty apartment  from her mothers house. She was pissed, depressed and extremely frustrated. All she wanted to do was sleep and forget that that day even had place. But unfortunately   it was only 9 pm. and she couldn’t fall asleep no matter how hard she tried. Dressed in white wife beater, pair of boxers and her favorite hoodie she sat in front of TV with bottle of scotch and started to watch Jerry Springer reruns. Two skunky bridesmaids  where fighting over a midget.
