Grow Old With Me – (Chapter: Doctors, Diseases, and Dads)

Early the next morning, Ben came in, chart in hand. I hoped he would finally have an answer. And he did.
“Ashley has meningitis,” he declared. My father immediately dropped his head. That couldn’t be a good sign. “Her spinal cord and the membranes around her brain have become inflamed and filled with fluid. It’s a very serious, often fatal, bacterial infection.”
“Is she going to be okay?” I asked.
“Her prognosis is good, given that you brought her in quickly. She also hasn’t developed the rash that is common with meningitis patients, which is a very good thing. But nothing is certain with these kinds of cases; it depends how she responds to the antibiotics,” he explained.
“Can I see her?” His beeper went off and he checked it before responding.
“Not right now. I’ve got to go, I’ll let you know…” he called out as he ran off. I hoped to God that call wasn’t about Ashley.
Eventually, I just plain lost track of time. It could have been 4 hours or it could have been 14 hours until the next time Ben came in. As he approached, I searched his face for clues but found none.
“Ashley’s stable now. You can come see her if you’d like.” I immediately jumped up. My dad assured me he would stay back so I could be alone with Ashley for a little; and then, it came to me.
“Wait, do you mean Ashley wasn’t stable before?” I asked Ben on our way to her room. He hesitated before answering.
“Well, yes. We had to perform surgery to drain her spinal fluid and it’s never an easy procedure. She should make a full recovery, though.” I breathed a sigh of relief, but my nerves were put back on edge when we reached her room. She was sleeping and hooked up to a bunch of different machines when I entered. She looked peaceful, at least compared to the agony she’d been in the last time I’d seen her. I walked over to her bed and sat down in a chair facing her as I picked up her hand.
“Ash?” She stirred a little and eventually opened her eyes; I squeezed her hand gently. “Hey.”

I AM SOOO GLAD That you posted a chapter. I LOVE YOUR STORY!!!! It is sad that Ashley has to be like that to her dad, but he deserves it. I just hope that Ashley and SPencer will be okay and that Spencer will not start failing her classes at school when she moves in with Ashley. TTYL and I can’t wait to see what other ideas that you have for this story. Buh-bye!!!!!!!
Wow that was a great chapter. I`m shocked ashley dad came to see her. I`m glad ashley is doing alot better. And spencer dad is the best letting her move in with ashley. Cant wait for the next chapter. PMS.
Hey seeing how it says that u own Spencer and Ashley, would u pretty please mind sharring? I promise I will be a good gurl!!=), okay well anyways im glad that ashley was A OKAY!! gah u freakin scarred me!! SO happy ashley and spencer our moving in!!! yah!! Oh and Ashleys dad can step the flipper off!! so yeah good post!!! AWESOME!!

So, I definitely missed this story while I was away. I got back from my trip last night and was happy to see a new chapter. You know, I believe I saw this in the classified section of the newspaper the other day: Wanted – Father for young female. Must enjoy actually talking to and being engaged in said female’s life on a daily basis. Also, must not be jaded by fame. Raifes need not apply. I also recall reading in a medical journal that a speedy recovery from meningitis is possible via table clearing sex. On that note, you know I love this story and your writing Kozmic. Hook a sista’ up with another chapter when you can.
