Grace on Fire – (Chapter: A Date with Death)

Bright skies, polluted air, vindictive drivers, all integral pieces of the puzzle that made up the landscape. Sure the Hollywood sign and Dodger Stadium were landmarks but it was the people and the environment that they created around themselves that made Los Angeles what it really was.

‘Self-obsessed and self-righteous, egotistical, narcissistic, pretentious Angelenos. Los Angeles. The Angels. What a steaming load of crap.’ Ashley thought to herself as she walked through the crowded outdoor mall of Century City. She surreptitiously observed the humans as they milled about their seemingly insignificant lives, rushing from point A to point whatever to do whatever with whoever.

Her wings were displayed proudly, blazing beneath the California sun but no one could see them. Not even the angels. That was the issue with this war. No one could tell who was who unless they revealed themselves and the only ones who did that were the Hell Spawn and the Ark Angels. Even then that was an extremely rare occurrence. Although they had the power to be seen and not be threatened by the lower level minions on either side of the fence, their was still the potential of being destroyed by high ranking assassin. It happened though, more frequently than either side would’ve liked to admit and was always a huge detriment to their respective causes… which of course was winning.

She watched a group of teenagers who were decked out in designer everything scoff at another group of kids who were wearing torn, ripped, and vintage clothing. ‘We fight a war that’s been going on for millenniums over these worthless sacks of flesh? This is what God finds so sacred? Fuck, we need to get our priorities straightened-out.’

Though cynical her thoughts may have been, she knew that she wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the humans. She would have no purpose if they weren’t reproducing and dying and she certainly would have nothing to strive for if the goody-two-shoes up in Heaven and her realm didn’t think they were so damn important.

Her thoughts soon lead to a wicked thought and she smiled to herself, basking in the temporary reprieve from critical thought and jumping headfirst into what she did best; cause trouble. She strolled past the group of unkempt teenagers and brushed her finger along one of their backs before moving on.

    1. you know what I think would improve this story? Somewhere along the line someone saying “Tithead, go with my father”. It will make me the most satisfied person EVER. Until that moment, however, I must inform you I think this fic is awesome – kinda reminds me of the movie Dogma too, which is all good as Little Nicky and Dogma are both cracking :-D keep up the good work!

    3. Ok, it’s very contstantine, but given that i’m tempted to write a story so close to “the bodyguard” at least you picked a decent movie. I’m guessing SPencer will be an angel. That’s ok. I’m loving this. i’m loving your writing. Keep it up please!! Much interest in this story.
